I think they have handguards/bigger screen and a 21front 18back set up

Plus higher sus which would be good for me :)

21 front correct but still a 17 rear.

What will you use it for? if it's mainly road use then get the GS. if you like a bit of off-roading as well then go for the Dakar.

the later versions are twin-spark, makes for a less vibey ride and better fuel economy.

My first big bike was an F650GS. I loved it. Used on and off road, and evey did the Stella Alpina on it last year. Very comfortable and economical (you can get 90mpg out of them).

They are also fun to ride. However, they are more agritultural than any other bike around and you need to give it a bit of wellie to get it going, but I didn't have much trouble keeping up with Stormforce8 on his Africa Twin and I only had to fill up half as often.............and I never got a numb rear end.........even after 600 miles:p:p

Buy one.............. come join the dark side.........you know you want to:p:p:p:p:p

Yesterday I bought a F650GS, BMW Orange, 3k miles, top box, originally restricted for previous owner, from Rainbow in Rotherham. I had four days last year off-roading on a 650GS with Pavey and Chums in South Wales. It was great which said that was the bike for me. So bought one. 2007 Transalp will go very shortly - watch this space.

Just keep a look out. Set your budget and one day, hopefully in the not too distant future, the bike for you will come along. If you're not in any rush you will be able to get a bargain.

Also, bike prices start going up at this time of year as the weather improves. If you're not in a hurry wait until the winter and they get quite a bit cheaper. In fact, the nearer to Christmas the better for buyers.

I bought a low mileage W reg F650GS with full luggage, heated grips and ABS and full service history for just over £2k in June last year. So they are out there. If you have £3k to spend you'll get a newer one.
