After the total balls up that Dakar 2008 became it looks that Europe and Northern Africa will once again see such an event before the ASO contract to host the 'new' old event in Argentina finishes in 2011... Over the last few years Rally raid has flourished with new events finding their way on many teams’ calendars. Events like the Budapest-Bamako has seen record numbers, the Hero’s Legend has welcomed new vehicles unlike in the past where only historic’s were de rigueur.
So what’s this new possible sign of salvation for European rally raid fans?... well the package will include 16 or more days of competition, it’s going to cover some of the most famous dunes in Morocco and Mauritania and yes it will finally come to a finish in Senegal. What’s more this is not just a piece of press hype, Yesterday Hubert Auriol (twice Dakar winner and 10 year Paris-Dakar race director) announced that he and his team are already hard at work to make this event happen in late 2008 or early 2009!!!.. more information as I get it.
