Okay..here we go.

Here`s my 650cc Ural combo....

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/Tarka_2008/Skaya2.jpg

It`s a year 2000 model...built after the factory revamp over the Winter of 1999 and to much higher standards than the older ones.
I bought this as a sadly neglected non runner with all tyres shot and the whole thing covered in slime and cobwebs.
Since bringing it back to life it`s been in almost daily use for the last two years.
Here`s another couple of pics.
(She`s called 'Skaya' by the way)

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/Tarka_2008/Skaya3.jpg

And here`s my 'posh' 750cc Ural combo.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/Tarka_2008/D1.jpg

This is a year 2004 model, bought as a non runner with only 860km on it!!
The owner had moved house and the warranty had expired...and they knew nothing about bikes.
I bought it a year ago for £2200.
Checked it over...found a bent exhaust valve and fixed it for £20.
It`s now worth £3500,heh heh.
She`s called 'Dee'.

Used for 'nice' rallies and B&B weekends whereas Skaya goes to dirty and rough events :teeth:

(Oh...and also for stunting...heh heh)

More pics.........

Ural combos are fun at any time...but they really come into their own in Winter...and especially in frost and snow.

Here`s Skaya at the Dragon Rally.

Eagle eyed readers will observe that I`ve fitted a Dnepr leading link front end to Skaya since the earlier pics(she was a rare 'Roustabout' model fitted with telescopic forks originally, but leading links are far better on a combo).

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/Tarka_2008/DR41.jpg

It was a tad cold....

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/Tarka_2008/DR48.jpg

Gawd...I like cold weather but it was painful even to breathe :D

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/Tarka_2008/DR40.jpg

Snow brings even more fun !!

I used ten quid`s worth of petrol and didn`t go more than five miles from home...just hooned around the lanes for the morning :blob5:

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/Tarka_2008/Tarkasfunday3.jpg

Go on....you know you want one !!

I do want one and you know it cause i'm always annoying you to get you to sell me one. Are either of yours TWD?

My wife thinks i'm mad, but one of these days i will get one. I suppose i should put some money aside just in the of chance that one comes along some day.

No mate.

As you can see,BOTH (there I go again :D ) of MINE (:D) are UK sided...ie left hand chair...and you can only have 2WD on Continental sided ones due to the shaft and bevel box being on the right.

Incidentally, you don`t need 2WD for anything other than very extreme trials type offroading, despite what some of the Merkins may say on AdvRider.

I did an off road day on Skaya with road tyres and with only rear wheel drive...and had no trouble at all.
The only guy to have difficulties was on a 2WD combo....they try to go straight in 2WD and end up 'crabbing' due to the asymmetrical wheel plan.

They must have dropped the ground, coz there is no way a Ural can go fast enough to get air like that!! Catapult? Trebuchet?

Perhaps they photoshopped the ski-jump just behind them!!

Erm.....you`re slightly akimbo there mate.

That`s not a wartime combo and those aren`t German soldiers :D

That photo is a 'still' from a Ural Soviet military film and the combo did indeed 'get air' as shown in the photo.

I got out of first gear...once... on my off-roading. Does that count?

I needed reverse more often to get me out of the pine trees...

Tarka is right: road tyres are surprisingly good. However, I have used the 2WD: the bike got stuck straight away without.

No doubt my technique needs addressing!

May not look it in my pics, but the sand was quite deep and the troughs, quite steep!

PS. I'm going to buy a medieval rack for my monkeys (sidecar passengers) as the bumps probably leave them about 7% shorter after the ride...

back to beaulieu last year, managed to snap this before the rain set in.
its a combo towing a caravan and the sidecar unclips to form a little boat, including outboard.
i remember it was in one of the magazines over the last year too.

im not sure about the boat's seaworthiness (the two bags of cement in the bottom give a big hint) but the caravan was a little work of art, if youve got a ural speed isnt an issue, so why not take a double bed with you when you go on a trip?

That's just to keep the sidehack wheel somewhere near the surface. ;-)

Friend of mine keeps a few big old lead batteries in his sidecar, as ballast.

I love the little boat idea though.

That special was built by Mick at MPC: the place I went for a day's intro training to riding sidecars (that knowledge alone probably helped me avoid the hedge the first few days in the new saddle!).

I can't comment on sea-worthiness, but lake, canal and gentle river-worthiness is probably OK. Have a look here (http://www.uralmotorbikes.info/Specials.htm)

I rode the 'Ural Camper' combo with sidecar boat towing the caravan from Mick`s place (MPC Ural) south of Leicester down to last year`s Beaulieu event.
Mick trailered my 2 tone combo down there with the other shop bikes.

Don`t kid yourself about perceived 'lack of speed' as other traffic was actually slowing me down.

The combo is fitted with solo gearing which dulls acceleration from standstill a bit...but the whole rig will cruise at 60-65mph all day.

You barely notice the caravan apart from having to get your cornering speed set up properly before the bend and gently powering around in order to avoid the dead weight of the caravan 'nosing' you.

oh right, so they arent that slow then, about warp factor enfield would you say? thats useable at least.

my boy(9) wants me to get one of these, but the 2WD with reverse and preferably the antitank rocket launcher like in the russian website

It`s a bit childish to discuss how fast a bike will go,especially a bike of this type...but for your information even my 650 Ural is capable of passing and leaving an Enfield.
The 750 Ural will romp away from an Enfield completely.

didnt mean to pluck your string old boy, if you re-read my comment its actually a compliment, (change 'slow' to 'not a fireblade but can easily keep up with traffic and be a fun, sprightly ride', theres too many different ideas of 'fast/slow' these days)
for the style/set up of the bike a 500 enfield has perfectly good performance, and if a ural goes even better than power to the people!

i would never expect bikes like these, or deride them for not having, a modern bikes performance. except perhaps an 883 sportster, but does that class as modern?
