Hi all.
To be honest, i should'nt be thinking about this but I was just wondering if any of you have had, or have heard of any experiences (good or bad) with the 950 ?. I've been lusting over these for some time but I just cant stretch to a 990 at the moment. Looking about though I have seen a couple of nice 950's at a more do-able price.
I got back from morocco with my AT yesterday (a brilliant trip that i would urge anyone to do by the way) and as great as the bike was in morroco, the ride there and back highlighted to me once again how gutless the engine is and gave me plenty of time to think about how i'd love more power... I NEED MORE POWER !!. And a sixth gear come to mention it. No more than 80 is comfortable and even then it feels like i'm caning it a bit. Plus it's just lacking that exhilaration factor that I think a large capacity bike should give...other than that, it's brilliant !.
Feel free to talk me out of it, the bank manager will love you for it.
Otherwise, any thoughts welcomed.
Thanks
Paul

the 950 is a great bike ,, some say better because the carbs have perfect fueling  if you go for one just make sure that its had its factory recals and a full service history and you will be fine:thumbup: i know a guy whose done over 50,000 miles with no issues and still going strong:thumbup:

I've got a 2004 950 and love it. Fuel pump, water pump and clutch slave thingy are common failures (I've had 2 out of 3). I've also had a small oil leak, front fork seal fail and yet another part of my exhaust is rotting away (the Y section. No complete stainless steel replacement available or I'd buy one).
Now I've written that down, the list sounds worse than I thought! Apart from may be the exhaust, none are difficult to fix if you are vaguely handy with a spanner (I'm not and take mine to Premier Bikes in Didcot).
Make of that what you will, but I'd be happy to buy another one.

thats where my dad's 990 came from :)
And remember the 990 comes with a geal seat whereas the 950 does not come with it standerd :thumbright:

PaulI think you need to try the BMW F800GS and I won't say more...:D:D:D
Rain in your trip? It's been raining here in PT...:(
What tires did you take to Morocco?
I'm thinking of turning to the 'Orange Side'.... from the @... looking at the 950 too, with the carbs everyone says they are a bit smoother than the 990 with the injectors.
The @ just lacks that extra bit of top end when over taking.. shame really as the @'s are cracking bikes !
Only concern I have is the question of reliabilty

Did you try one already?:angel7:
Thought I'd go to my local KTM dealer just to throw my leg over a 950.... Think I need to be stretched about 3".... a bit too tall for me....:( my vertically challenged 5'6 is a bit too challenging for the orange beast !!

Looks like a pretty much resounding 'go for it' to me then. It'll take a few months to sort but i think i'll be working towards it for late summer/autumn time. It'll take till then to clean up my bike from the trip, that sand gets bleedin everywhere !.
Thanks for the advice guys, all noted.

Oh, and to Falp. It was cold, raining and very misty on our last day coming back through the Rif mountains. To anyone thinking of going through the rif, heed the warnings, there was a particularly hostile feeling about the place. Everywhere else, fantastic. I was on TKC 80's for the trip. Took a while getting used to them but glad i put them on as some of the piste riding we did was quite tough. Well, to a rookie like me anyway.
