View Full Version : The Long Way Up - Where Shall We meet?

OK, thought I'd start a convoy/where shall we meet thread, as I know there are several possés that'll be on the move at different times.
Here's mine anyway;
I'll be flying solo for most of the ride up there, as I'm leaving on Wednesday 18th (or potentially Tuesday 17th after work) to ride up to Edinburgh and pop in to see my folks before the off.
It'd be great to hook up with the rest of the gang as you pass by after your Bunkhouse night. I'm assuming you guys will be heading North up through Jedburgh and Galashiels or up the A1, both of which will see you on the Edinburgh City bypass heading for the Forth Road Bridge and passing 1/4 mile from my folks place.
If someone can call me (gotta love on-bike comms) say half an hour before you hit the bypass then I can position myself on a handy flyover (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=&daddr=55.895962,-3.202901&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=15&sll=55.895745,-3.202729&sspn=0.021705,0.05609&ie=UTF8&t=p&z=15) "C.H.I.P.S. style" and wait for you all to come by (from right to left on that map)...then we can ride the rest of the way to JOG together.
Does that sound like a plan or what?

Good idea, I've altered the title a little and made it a sticky. Hope that meets with approval.

Nay worries :salute:
On our way up from the bunkhouse would anyone fany a brief stop at the Falkirk Wheel as we will be passing very close - I've seen it on How do they Do It on Discovery channel and it looks a fine piece of engineering

For those who fancy a different way up , to the route we are taking back down !! I was thinking ............
A rendevous at the Erskine Bridge ( West of Glasgow) then - Loch Lomond - Glen Coe - Fort William - The Great Glen - Inverness - then take the Thurso road to JOG. A different route to the "charity" route and some nice roads.
We could arrange a meet at Erskine bridge mid / late morning on Friday that would get us in the Fort William area for lunch and probably in JOG area for say 7:00pm ish .
Any takers ????

I've just emailed everyone the Partcicpants Pack paperwork - which contains everyones mobile numbers so that each and every one of us can contact each other if needs be (barring any restraining orders from the Orange Jihad :D ).
Please respect this information as some might not like their contact details bandied around un-necessarily

I think I'm going to be taking this route (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=8448987910959256911,55.895390,-3.202490&saddr=Unknown+road+%4055.895390,+-3.202490&daddr=KW1+4YR&sll=57.267164,-3.713379&sspn=5.182664,14.359131&ie=UTF8&ll=57.249338,-3.878174&spn=5.185168,14.359131&t=p&z=7) on Friday...300 miles is plenty after 400 the day before and with 900 the day after!

Great Maurice , If I get the 08:30 ferry I could meet you in Adrossan - alternatively if I get the 09:30 you could meet me in Largs ????
Blue Skies is coming off the Irish boat at Troon at 09:00, we could all arrange a meet "somewhere" on the coast before heading for the Erskine Bridge for about 10:30. And see if anyone else is joining us there.??

EVERYONE - don't forget that the garage at JOG next to the Seaview Hotel closes at 6pm - and won't be open again untilafter we leave.
I shall be leaving High Peak 0500 Wednesday and riding up in one go. Route will be M60, M61, M6, A74, M74, M73, A80, M80, M9, A9 and A99. I have done the Ft William route many times but not the route via Blair Atholl (A9). I don't expect anyone will be traveling on Wednesday, but if you are, PM me before 2200 Tuesday. All, have a good journey up to JOG.

Hi J
Me and winxpmaster are heading up on the thursday.. what time do you think you might reach carlisle and maybe we could meet up there 1 or 2 oclockish then we could all head north from there together we are planning on the erskine bridge and fort william up to inverness but unsure after that its a split between the A9/A99 official route or swing left at inverness and go round via ullapool which looks slightly longer but means that overall we will have done a full lap of northern scotland and done more roads and seen more stuff...
