That'l be me,

Setting off from Manchester friday morning but not sure exactly what time,

Hoping to get up to Erskine Bridge to meet up with anyone else that's meeting there (sometime mid-late morning?)

Probably leave home around 8am (ish)

If you fancy meeting up for the ride to Scotland then let me know.

8am from Manc sounds ok - what time would that get us up there?

Alps what time will you be passing this way??

if you are giong M1 A1 then we could maybe meet you somewhere?

or similarly if you are going M6!

it's all to play for!

We'll be leaving Durham early morning Friday - possibly an A1 and up route, so it's not the same as the way down.

Which way are you folks going??

alpslapper
10-06-08, 09:55 PM
Ok I'll take the M1/A1 route up so could meet the manc crowd at a services and then we could ride up and meet Mudwizz and BTBloke further along .... how about scotch corner??

z-weiser
11-06-08, 08:25 AM
this is starting to look like a plan!!

right then if that idea is OK with all concerned lets put a time on it!

any offers?

it's all good - no point in doing a tour if you can't see stuff while you are riding!

soo Alps what time realistically - without pushing it on your part of getting up toooo mega early could you be passing say Leeds?

that will give me and MX5Ringer a place and time to meet you then we can head up to catch Mudwiz and BTbloke!

Falkirk Wheel ?? Don't know what it is, but yes, why not?

If Z and Alps are thinking of hitting Scotch Corner, then why not spin up the A1, then A68 which is the nicest way towards Edinburgh. Some classic views etc. too.

We can meet on the A68 at a place to be sorted at whatever time. Google Maps recons 8 1/4 hours to JoG from Tow Law, on A68. Can find a wonderful route, using a minimum of the route down for just under 11 hours !!!

1) what time are you leaving durham to get there on time
2) are you still bivvying?

Not sure what time to leave Durham - it's still a long way!

But yep, I'm still planning to bivy. Light non-down sleeping bag, v.v. thin mat and bivy bag. 'tis summer after all!

Leaving Manchester at 8am, Where do you want to meet?

I'm next to the Trafford Centre M60 J9 so anywhere on the M60 is easy for me.

It looks like we have the choice of heading up to Glasgow for the Erskine Bridge meet up, or Scotch Corner for the A9 ride up through Scotland.

I really don't mind which so if you have a preference then let me know.

i'm not far from J10 M60 so that will be easy!!

ok 8 sounds good - shall we hwad over to the east and meet alsplapper and then head north to meet mudwiz and bt bloke and then take in the sights up to JOG

how does that sound to the rest of you?

it will take about an hour from manc to the M1/A1 in rush hour reaffic so we could meet mudwizz somewhere on that side and head norf!!

what say you all?

Sounds good to me.

There is a little layby with a cash machine on the entrance to the retail park there (the one with McDonalds, KFC etc)

Thats probably the easiest place to stop around that junction so I'll see you there at 8am

How about meeting A1 (M) Junc. 62 (Durham, A690) ??

Guessing about 1000 am if you're leaving Manchester about 800 am.

My worry with that is 8 1/2 hours travel by google maps to JoG means we'll miss the petrol.

That's without going "Falkirk Wheel" either.

24 hour fuel available at Wick which is only 13.5 miles South of JOG.

Hi Guys, thats my neck of the woods. Can I suggest meeting at Junc 59 as there is a service station and McDonalds. you can then pick up the A68 and avoid the big towns. A68 and then A7 is a good ride north from here.
I might even be around to wish you luck.

Mud. PM'd you.

J 59 sounds good, just a spit south from Durham, a place to wait and straight onto fun roads.

What time Z ???

Google Maps recons about 5 hrs 47 mins, from "Devon" to J 59 on A1 (M) just south of Durham, signed A167.

Get there for 10-30 am ?? (ish, I'm not to worried about 17 mins!!)

Right guys - it's all gone a bit wibbly wobbly here - as opposed to pear shaped, which would be worse :D

I now have no idea what time Im going to be in on Thurday night, and consequently cant plan if I'll need a rest, or how long a rest I'd get, before I set off.

Rather than hold people up, I'm going to make my own way there - it's looking like it will be a straight run up there for me sometime on friday, hopefully before 6pm.

I'll have all the iron butt paper work with me for everyone so catch you all there Friday evening :thumbright:

Good luck and ride safe - :thumbright:

Depends on the Devon bit! But if you can be at M60 J10 (Which can be pretty much on the way I guess) for 8am (or thereabouts?) then the more the merrier.

I'll be following Z-Weiser most of the way as I'm lost outside of the M60 unless it's on a satnav fastest route and I think our group is getting bigger on the A1 but not sure of the complete plan:confused:

To everyone that has set off (or setting off tomorrow) Ride safe, Hope this crappy rain dies down, see you Friday.......
