Riding in a River

Day 3 of getting soaked and pissed off big style, who has nicked the :sunny:

If this keeps up the roads will be a river on the ride home (the have started to get there this morning).

What is the advice for riding in extremely wet weather. I am think speed down, low gear, high revs. In deep puddles go steady in a low gear.

Am I on the right tact ??

Just keep everything smooth (brakes, throttle & gears) and remember you can't see the road surface - gravel, manhole covers etc.

Don't splash any grannies walking next to the road!

I recon you also need to lighten the front wheel, stand up, lean back a bit, (unless you need to corner), stay relaxed. Not to high a gear, you need to know you've got a bit of go if you hit a big rock or a deepening, use the clutch to keep the revs up, and when it all goes wrong hit the kill switch before the air box inlet goes under water!

If you don't kill it first, make sure you've drained the air box, carb and exhaust before you try and start it, it's probably also worth popping the spark plugs to make sure you've got all the water out the engine!

Even if you've got it stopped, air box and carb drains are probably a good idea, even pop out the air filter and give it a good wringing out.

if you do a lot of it, check the position of breather pipes, any that can "suck" need to be routed out the way, I go along the frame rails up by the air-box.
