Welcome to the site Gray, I love the look of the baby Vara and from what I understand it's a cracking bike.

You need to take a peek in the Varadero section (http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=37)the guys in there will be able to give you loads of advice if you need any help. I am sure you've had a good look around the site but just in case here is a link to theyou'll get some excellent advice about the bikes in there

Other bits that you may want to look in are the meetings section (http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40) for details of planned rides and if there is nothing there then post one up and see who is about.

If you get bored you can always pull up a chair and put your feet up in the Chatter (http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=41) section for a natter. If your luckey you may well find the topics in there are bike related, having said that it usually just a vague link

After you have been here a while you may want to think about subscribing as well, fairly soon some of the functions that you currently have will no longer be available without subscription, it's just a way for us to be able to improve the site and add extra functions. If you look at the top of the page you will see the subscribe button. If it's not something you want to do that's fine too, you will still be able to post and read the posts that are here so don't go anywhere.

If there is anything you want to ask or if you have any problems then post in the problems with the forum section (http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=46)there are lots of helpful moderators and admins around that will help

Have fun and if there is anything you need give us a shout.

Hi Gray

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your decision to get back into biking. I only took my bike test at 41 last year and have never looked back.

Look out for Lady Vader on the forum, she's got a lovely 125 Varadero.

I was 45 when I took my test and it was fairly straightforward.

My daughter reckons it can't be a mid-life crisis because riding a bike is cool.

That'll be Debs forgetting she's signed on as Lord Vader! It's not Lord Vader having a moment of gender confusion (hopefully).

HI gray

Welcome to the forum.

I am a late starter too, Iam 41 and passed my test in May . I have a TA650 super cool bike, IMO.

People say to me, Mid Life Crisis, I just smile as I roar off on my bike....

Their faces say it all.. "Wish I could do that" :thumb::thumb:

Nice to see more mature sensible types joining the site. I have long suspected there are too many young bucks who are driven by too much testosterone.

Yes I do wear a caridgan, slippers and have milky drinks at bedtime (22-00 hours).

I was 56 when I got the urge to ride a bike, family recon I'm in some sort of mid life crisis. I wish I had not wasted all those years thinking, 'should I'.

I have some serious riding ambitions, and I will carry them out.

UP THE WORKERS!

I passed my test at 44 having spent a happy couple of years running round on a 125 Varadero (still in garage gathering dust if anyone wants one). Then straight to an Africa Twin which was a bit of a shock but not as much of a shock as going back to the Varadero after 2 months on the Africa Twin.
Enjoy your time on the Varadero and welcome to the site there is loads of useful info here and lots of helpful folk if you need them.
