Hello.

Right, that's the formality out of the way :)

Been lurking for a while since making the decision to buy a 700 TransAlp ( which I've now had for a couple of months ) and figured it was time to surface.

Getting the TA was a return to the fold - bike history going back in time is Suzuki SV650, 650 Transalp, CBR600F, VFR750, NTV650, CBX550, Guzzi V50, CG125 ( on which I learnt to ride ).

I also have a newer CG125 which is my daily commuter... I only have a short commute and it's easier to look after the CG in winter - and is somewhat cheaper to run

The new TA is in grey, supplied with centrestand. I fitted a Givi toplate adapter ( which occasionally carries an E36 box ) and most recently a lower seat. I'm still using the standard screen and it feels as if I get a little less buffeting with the lower seat compared to the original ( I'm 5'10" and wear a BMW system 4 helmet with the 'jet' open face option ). Legs do feel a little more cramped though but I'm now not so worried about unplanned halting before I've had time to survey the road ahead ( it seemed to be a case of choose lower seat or 'crash' bars  ).

I went for the 700 TA after reflecting on the fact that the 650 TA was the bike I'd enjoyed riding the most ( and I also wanted to get back to a Honda ). The 650 I bought with centrestand, lower seat and panniers ( plus adaptor plate for Givi ) and later on changed to braided lines on the front brakes. I decided this time to go lighter on the luggage and I don't think the 700 will need braided lines as the braking seems OK to me whereas the 650 did feel 'soft'. When the tyres on the 650 wore down I changed to Pirelli MT90 Scorpions ( I freely admit I'm not an off-roader by intention ) and I think I'll do the same on the 700 - I'll be glad to get away from the 'thrumming'. Having said that, the OE tyres aren't bad - cornering with the bike on it's ears is certainly OK in the dry and I haven't had any moments in the wet ( yet ! ).

That's about it really. My better half ( hereafter to be known as Mrs Baggy ) rides a 1050 Speed Triple. She used to ride a BMW F650ST ( also Kawa W650 and Suzi SV650 ) but still shows signs of changing to something trallie - it will probably be a 1050 Tiger but we shall see.

And I'll endeavour to dig out a picture.

Cheers

Keith.

Welcome to the madhouse. Apart from the pictures, you seem to have covered all the answers to the usual questions in your post.

The semi-official XRV welcoming committee, by the name of Sharribee, will be along in a minute to ask, nay demand, pictures of your bike. But, if you've been lurking around here for a while, then you'll know that that is par for the course.

Ride safe.

Hello, welcome to the site, as Lutin has quite rightly pointed out we do like to see pictures of you bike especially if it's a brand spanking new one.

There are lots of the guys here that now have the new transalp and they all seem to like them lots and lots. I am sure you've already found it but take a peek in the transalp section (http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=35) you'll find loads of advice and info in there

You will want to have a look into the meetings section (http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40) for details of planned rides and if there is nothing there then post one up and see who is about. There are a few members in the Midlands so I am sure you'll find someone to play with

If you get fed up of all the bike chat then pull up a chair and put your feet up in the Chatter (http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=41), this is where we stop and have a gossip, and if your lucky you may well find the topics in there are bike related, wouldn't hold your breath though they talk about everything in there.

After you have been here a while you may want to think about subscribing as well, fairly soon some of the functions that you currently have will no longer be available without subscription, it's just a way for us to be able to improve the site and add extra functions. If you look at the top of the page you will see the subscribe button. If it's not something you want to do that's fine too, you will still be able to post and read the posts that are here so don't go anywhere.

If there is anything you want to ask or if you have any problems then post in the problems with the forum section (http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=46)there are lots of helpful moderators and admins around that will help

Have fun and enjoy the site

Hi all and thanks for the welcome.

Only got one picture of the bike so far - taken at one of our regular destinations ( Pembrokeshire ) - also featuring Mrs Baggies bike :)

I've already picked up some useful stuff ( watch the clips on plastic side trim connecting to the tank and lifting the bike onto the centrestand using the pillion peg hanger  ) and I look forward to hopefully making useful contributions as well as picking up more useful snippets/bike/life savers :)

All the best,

Keith.
