I'll be setting off to the national on the friday from redcar(north east) and am wondering if anyone else is setting off on that day that i could possibly meet up with en-route! basically i'll go via A1, M1,M42,M5,A38 ish but can vary the route to suit if anyone is interested it is always better to ride in a group or even as a pair rather than ride alone i think......:)

Taking a similar route from Chesterfield, Friday am (or remote maybe Thursday night with a Travel lodge overniter?). Might be using a bit more of the A38 to relieve the motorway boredom. Keep an eye out for a blue 03 Transalp,2 up, XRV stickers on the top box. :D

agreed! Riding in a group would be better, but not sure I'd want to inflict my plodding place on folks without a warning! We are aiming to set off around 9, avoid motorways as much as we can and make plenty stops along the way. This will only be my 2nd time out on the TA fully loaded (6 or 7th pillion outing for the missus) and I did feel a bit prone to crosswinds and truck buffet! MRA on order, hoping it gets here in time, might improve our cruising speed!
Doubtful you might see us on the way down? Maybe, but still a good chance you'll be there before us! Probably gonna take us all day, 9-10 hours inc stops?
Safe journey, see you there, save us a tent space!

Hi Mick
Avoiding motorways can sometimes be more trouble than its worth especially if your route takes you through town centres which can be packed mad with traffic and pedestrian crossings and such which can quickly become tiresome and really robs you of time... i've seen myself get stuck in so many traffic snarl-ups that i've re-routed the gps to take 'the fastest route' and within minutes i'm on a motorway. I've recently discovered that an mp3 player really helps with the monotony of them mind....

Chees for the tip. Planning on going A61, A38, M42, M5/A38 or a bit of both depending on time, weather, traffic ...

Fecking hell. That is immaculate. I'd be more worried that the engine hasn't been run enough. My two have 150,000 on the clock between them (60 and 90).

Hi Cabby
I notice the bidding has ended for that africa twin but the reserve price wasn't met so it could re-appear.. whitby is not far from me at all in fact theres biker meets there every thursday night which i go to, so could easily go and have a look for you but i dont have loads of experience with africa twins(in fact i have none) so dont know exactly how much my opinion would be worth to you about it but i could take some photo's if its still for sale.

If you could find out the minimum he wants and let cabby know, with the photos , I think that will help cabby decide.
