Why have they done this to me, why cant they just leave me alone !!!

I loved my Africa Twin, but seat was very compromised for 2 up, and it lacked power.

So i bought the Varadero, great two up and lots of power but heavy.

So i bought the 650 V Strom and to be frank i am now chuffed to bits with this bike after some mods

Sonic Front Fork Springs + 10wt Motorex Fork Oil - Front fork is way too soft and dives real bad when you even look at the brakes, now it is like a completely different bike, suspension is real smooth.

Renthal Standard Trail Bars - Standard set up is too upright puts too much weight on your spine and arse, this is much, much, much better.

Heated Grips - Comfort for old man.

Madstad Windscreen Bracket - Standard screen mounts are really terrible, hideous buffetting, now as smooth as a babys bum i can cruise at 90mph with my visor up !!

BUT and this is a big BUT today i went to Tri County Motorcycles in Bracknell and had a go on a 990 adventure and now i hate KTM with a real passion.

Bloody superb bike, modern day Africa Twin, same type of outline and geometry and big wheels and spokes, great looking, well engineered, it is and feels much lighter, good brakes, fabulous suspension and storming motor LIGHT THE BLUE TOUCH PAPER AND GO.

REALLY LOVED IT

How can anybody ride a KTM Adventure and then buy a BMW? beyond me.

I will keep the V Strom for now, but next year? !!!!!!! Think i will be coming to this Sub Forum

I have no sympathy for you Shep :D.

All the ktm boys here keep tellin peeps "Dont ride one" but they just wont listen!! :D:D:D.

There are a few exceptions , Airwolf, MelJ, PhilW, "J",who are men of strong will and resolute characters. (we'll get them eventually:rolleyes:) who flatley refuse to go near a 990.

Two up Cie, no problem..

Try a spirited ride on a GS ?(or any bike for that matter) !!

Stanbloke is right - Whats the point in a 400mile tank range when your arse has a range of 150 miles ????. Who does not get off a bike every couple of hours for pee/coffee/leg stretch ???

I've never understood the assumption that huge tanks on a motorbike = good thing. The variation in handling between a full tank at 40 kg + and empty tank is enough to put me off. As long as there is enough range in my tank to get me as far as my bladder capacity, then I'm happy and a variation of +/- 20 kgs in fuel load is enough for me.

......is that implying the distance from which your varying levels of annoyance can be heard whilst uttering the word arse when your shiny new toy don't wanna play?.........or is it in fact the range you can attract 'them thur queer types' from...?? wearing orange thongs of course....from a small boutique in Harrogate don't ya know?....and packing enough vulcanising rubber solution to host a blow up doll exhibition at a feminist critique of social relations and anti-sexual-objectification seminar ....

I like the KTM, I think it's a gorgeous bike and wouldn't mind one. But the tank range is an issue to me.

I'm replying to this because tank range is a BIG thing up here in the highlands. SteveT runs with a plasi can strapped to the back of his @T in case of fuel issues on Sunday runs! When the guys you run with all allow for 200+ miles range you could easily end up walking one day! I'm just highlighting it is a valid point for some.

I did and still got 240 miles out of it:D

Stanbloke is right - Whats the point in a 400mile tank range when your arse has a range of 150 miles ???? maybe some of the "older" people on here but i managed two 280 mile stretches back to back:D:D. Who does not get off a bike every couple of hours for pee/coffee/leg stretch ???Me,Inverness to home 1 stop 25 min for fuel and a coffee.Took me 8.45 hours to get home:D

I tested a 950S a few years ago and didn't buy it - you can resist!

Might've had something to do with little legs and not being able to get tiptoes down, mind you ;)

I reckon they are the natural AT successor though - hold their value too damn well for us pre-owned buyers though!

Tank size on the 950 btw is 3 litres larger than the 990 as the fuel pump is external to the tank..

It's the full 22 litres instead of the 19 you get on the 990. On my scotland trip recently with Jim, my 950 was always within a litre of his AT when filling up. Sometime I got better mpg. We both returned on average over 50 mpg.

However.. The KTM's fuel economy is directly proportional to the stick you give it, I've seen between 130miles and 195 miles before refueling..
