View Full Version : good evenning from bala
well just got myself an AT after missing biking for the last ten years (ouch), used my first tank of fuel up and only fell off once, well it was 150 miles on tarmac and maybe 25 offroad. Over confidence, went straight for a well loved track called 'The Wayfarers' then Splashy Lane!
Are there any other members offroading AT in Wales? If so age old question of tyres, I really feel I could do with a set of knobblies, plus (a little late) a good set of crash bars. Thankfully more damage to my pride than my bike.
Anyway always good to get muddy.
Look forward to hearing from other riders, the muddier the better.

Welcome to the forum.
There are various threads about tyres but have you thought about TKC's.

Welcome to the forum. There are a few muddier members who I'm sure will be along soon.
I was in Bala last month (http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=29449). Lovely roads, but damp weather.

Welcome to the site, we have loads of Welsh members here and a few who like to do a bit of off roading. I have TKC's on my AT but haven't tried them off road yet although there are loads of guys here who will swear by them in the muddy stuff,
Don't worry too much about dropping it, I've been told the "RD" stands for recently dropped :D:D
Hi Gerb
Welcome
Me and Pete (Knobby101) did the Wayfarer several weeks back.
We went from Llandrillo end to the top and then down to Llanarmon DC.
Very muddy on the way up to the first gates then not so bad just slippy on the rocks. That biggest water feature you may have splashed through was up to our fuel tanks when we went through and about 15 metres long. Furtunately neither of us dropped it there but I lost mine on the rocks heading up to the summit after the bridge. Caught the sump guard on a stepped rock and the front went skywards. May have been different if I'd had the TKCs on, I was running the Heineau's which coped surprisingly well given the conditions.
Got some surprised looks from a guy coming down on a 250KTM
PM me your number and well meet up next time we're out that way
Regards
Paul
thanks for the welcome, and hopefully meet up with you guys some time in the near future. I'm planning a little ride on the 28 september (hopefully) which i think is the sunday. I've got to make this one an easy one as I'm hoping to talk my mate into taking his GS1150 offroad on road tyres and he's also an offroad newbie. Not the easiest of bikes to start on, he really could do with something lighter.
anyway I'll start him off on some forest roads first I think.
Kev.
Jacqueslemac, looking at those photos you drove past me!!!!! When you dropped down over the Berwyns did you know there are two lanes down to LLandrillo from where you took two of the pics looking down the valley.
Sadly the connecting bit of the lane from Llangynog appears to have been downgraded to bridleway only. Not sure how they got that one through as theres even an old stone bridge on it and a lovely ford.
Hi Kev
I might be able to meet up. I've PM'd you my phone numbers

Welcome mate. We have a few members in South Wales, but not familiar with many in your neck of the woods. I'm sure we'll arrange a ride out some time that will go that direction, but of course it will start down south! :( Maybe we'll call in for a cuppa?!?!?
I know there's a ride tomorrow from south to mid Wales, but after the National next week I expect big rides won't happen until next spring.
Kettle is always on! So say it suits me!
