Hi to all the forum members from a hopefull new owner?

I have ridden bikes since I was 17 and owned most variants except a enduro style machine but 6 years ago I got into 4x4 ownership and the wife hassled me to get rid of my GPX750 or the 4x4 - the 4x4 won due to its ability to carry the three kids etc etc.

I still own a 4x4 (sorry to swear) but I have to change places of work next week so instead of a 5 mile round commute Im faced with 72 miles and my chelsea tractor aint exactly frugle?

So should I buy a small diesel car or a motorbike - heart wins and Im after a bike. I thought of a beemer funduro but I have always loved the transalps and africa twins. From what I gather if im carefull with my riding I can get pretty decent mpg and enjoy travelling again.

So Im searching for a Africa Twin realy - that is if my 5'9" frame can take one as I like the idea of commuting and being able to stay awake (I work nights) and also being able to tour or even gentle green lane.

Im heavily into the outdoors anyway and solo light weight camping so a Honda would be brill.

I know forums are always thwe way to go and I look forward to learning and in the future helping when I can.

Welcome to the site, both the Africa Twin and the Transalp are excellent bikes and all the best people have at least one :D:D

We are a friendly bunch around here, a little nuts sometimes but you'll have plenty of fun while your finding out about which ever bike you choose

Hi there, TA is great but if you are large framed you may get bored of low power easily. @ pull so much better with all important torque especially loaded.
If its fuel economy your more into, the 650 BMW are as frugal as anything, I would say 20 mpg better than a TA.
