Hi all, I have recently bought a 08 Varadero abs:), and have got a:joker: idea of doing the Lands End to John O Groats trip (preferably in 24 hours. Can anyone give me an idea of riding times and speeds required to make it. +any good advice  thanks:thumbup:

Welcome to the site, the Vara is a good bike to do the E2E run on. Comfort with a good fuel range.

Loads of the members here did LE to JOG in June for charity (40 of them) in 24 hours, the average speeds ranged greatly depending on types of bike, fuel ranges and number of stops needed. I think with all endurance riding you just need to be sensible, take plenty of breaks, drink lots and make sure you have somewhere to stay at the end.

Let us know how you get on.

Welcome HOTGLOVES!

Shame you didn't have the Vara a few months earlier, you've just missed our big trip of the year, The Longest Day (http://www.thelongestday.org/).

Times for the ride ranged anywhere between 13 hours 11 Minutes and around 23 hours. Never worked out the average time between us all, but it was probably around 17 hours. We set off at 4am on the longest day of the year with the intention of riding pretty much the whole way in daylight.,

Best advice I could give is just go at your own pace, stop when you feel at all tired/hungry/thirsty (a ten minute stop with a coffee can see you right for a good few hours) and dress appropriately! I think the majority of us who did the ride in June, on midsummers day would say it was absolutely F**KING FREEZING for the first leg of the journey. I stopped around 7am and didn't stop shaking for the whole 20 minute stop - I don't think I actually warmed up until some way South of Blackpool!

Keep your waterproofs on (even if it's not raining they'll keep the wind off you and keep you a little warmer) or immediately to hand so you don't have to stop and/or unpack half your luggage to find them if/when the heavens open.

Eat little and often. A heavy meal will only make you feel sluggish.

Make sure you intimately know your bikes fuel range too. This is only really an issue if you're setting off VERY early for the first "leg" of the trip South from JOG as the filing stations don't open until 7 or 8am. The Tesco filling station in Wick however is 24 hour....next Southbound fuel "out of hours" along the route is Inverness, then Perth.

Once again fuel can be hard to come by at odd times when you get to the extremities of Cornwall so if you're running on fumes on your final approach make sure and fill up at Penzance (Tescos again), tempting though it may be to press on the final 11 miles to Lands End.

Other than that, just enjoy it. Dont freak out about it, dont overplan or overpack it, just get on your bike and ride

Hope you enjoy the Vara too, I loved mine...right up until the moment that little old lady slammed into the back of me  A very capable steed indeed.
