Hello fellas, I have a 1976 Xl 250 K4.
It has beena field bike for a few years but I would like to restore it and put it back on the road.
I have the frame number but I do not know the Reg No.
can I trace the reg no anywhere to fill in th V62 form?
many thanks ,Mark ( Newcastle upon Tyne)

Dvla will have a record, but they won't tell you the number  they will tell you if its on stolen register or not (i think). so you have to go down the new registration route.
If you have a friendly policeman to check it is not stolen from the frame number he might be able/prepared to tell you the reg number, (. . .but dont hold your breath.)
Good luck :thumbleft:
Oh, . . and welcome to the site :D

Hi, thanks for the quick reply, and the warm welcome to the forum.
I have posted before here but in the XR section. my XR post never got a reply from anyone :(
If it's previously been registered and not had the registration surrendered (scrapped/exported) then you should be able to confirm with the DVLA whether or not it is regisitered and then apply for the V5C. (as it's late '76 it should be on the DVLA database if registred, it's only the pre early 70s that weren't as they were held by local offices and not the national one.
Otherwise you'll have to get it probably SVA'd and apply for a new number (probably a Q plate unless you can get a statement from the frame and engine manufacturers stating that the vehicle was built in year XXXX then they should issue you with a dated reg..

Thanks for the reply . I think this is the XL forum not the africa twin ;)

It's the XL section on the XRV (Africa Twin) forum, hence you might not get as many answers as on a XL dedicated forum.

You won't need to have it SVA tested, since this is only for newer bikes (<10 years). If you don't know the registration you may have to treat it as previously unregistered and go down the registration process with form V55 available from the DVLA. I presume the DVLA may contact you if they can determine that it has been registered before, and this may work out cheaper for you. Registration with form V55 costs about £50 and you will need to send insurance details, MOT, the form and a cheque for the cost of the registration plus the road tax. If you're lucky, they may not need to inpect the bike, but they may do since this seems to be a random check system. If you send off the form, make sure you send it to an office that you can get to, just in case they need to see it.
I've registered two bikes with the DVLA and on both occasions found them to be helpful and fast.

The VJMC can often help with registrations as they are keen to keep as many old bikes on the road as possible.
I see your local to me, I am running a 250 K3 and Motorsport.

Hello Fella, thanks for the input. I have sold the XL to my good pal, as I want to concentrate on the restoration of My 87,XR 250
It has taken me a while, but my pal has acquired the necessary forms and pictures of the bike to confirm its make model and year. These have been posted to the Honda club. I think the Honda club are going to look at the info that he has provided, and then hopefully the Honda club will forward a letter that can be forwarded DVLA.
All the best regards,Mark Palmer
