Clutch like an on/off switch

Hi,

The clutch on my 05 adventure 950 is like an on/off switch, there is hardly anything from fully in to fully out but it doesn’t seem to be dragging. Only had the bike two weeks and its been like that since I got it so I was just wondering if everyone else is the same. If not what can I do about it, I have fiddled with the knob at the lever but all that does is move the biting point in and out.:confused:

Might have a couple of plates stuck together.:confused:

Have you tried bleeding it (make sure you use the correct fluid tho).:thumbup:

Might be an idea to get the seals checked in the slave. (down by your left toe). :D.

I'll get some stuff and try bleeding it, I take it from your reply this is not normal operation for these bikes,:confused: EG the clutch should be smoother. My clutch has literally 2 or 3 mm between the biting point and fully out

2/3mm bite or 2/3mm from the bar :confused:.

These are sharp clutches anyway ( not far off a race bike quality really) the whole bike is pretty aggressive compared to the more user freindly Jap bikes.

if this is 2/3mm "Bite" sounds ok to me. Its not a Honda . :D:D:D.

its 2 to 3mm bite, I can live with it, I just wondered if it was normal. Just means it takes a bit more concentration to slip the clutch at slow speeds like crawling up to lights or in traffic. I still love this bike:D its just so much fun. Its everything other adventure bikes would like to be.

hey dogfart,after i had all this hassle with my clutch,i found a few of them (clutch plates)were fractured so replaced the lot,£155 quid!!!! ouch,i had sheared bolt on clutch booster,boo,so tried to remove the centre nut,which was to much for me to do,so off to bike shop,they had to strip it down and use a heat torch to release the nut,and found a seal behind had gone so that got replaced about £1.20,i have now put it all back together again,and she is running like a dream again,so maybe that little seal has gone on yours????:confused:

nice to know macrider, im just going to live with it for now. From what i can gather its pretty normal, I have full movement of the lever its just that the bite point is about 2mm from the bar and the fully engaged point is about 2mm further from the bar. Just makes for the odd amateure looking start out of junctions now and then.:rolleyes::color:

Adjust your lever till the "Bitepoint" is 10/15mm from the bar. should be a bit more comfortable. :thumbup::D:D.

I will give it a try, like I said I have only had the bike two weeks and the weather hasnt been the best so Im just fiddling with things to get it right for me.

Well got the spanners out today and with a little help from Andy ( outrunner ) discovered the clutch was in bad need of some fluid and a good bleeding. All working find now, its still a bit sharp but its away from the bar now and feels more like I would expect it to feel.:D:D:D:D
