Just a thought, are any of you interested in a camping weekend some time this year ?
Maybe a small gathering on a campsite somewhere central of England [well south of Birmingham]
A pub, small site, or full facilities.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Only weekends I can't make at the moment are Sept 4/5 and Sept 11/12.
Venue I guess will depend on where most people are coming from - I'm in Abingdon but am happy to travel pretty much anywhere.

Towards the end of September would suit me the best. Location could be anywhere, but organising the right weather is the key. 8)

Is it worth it for four of us?
From the 17th to 27 Sept I am on holiday with the Dragon [wife]
I will start looking for a site, that is bike friendly.

Great idea about the camping. What about Wales somewhere so I can pop over on the ferry and join you all. OR you could come over on the ferry and visit the emerald Isle. Plenty of motorbike friendly camp sites. and always excellent weather, with cars moving to the side of the road to let bikes past and men in overalls mopping up any fuel spills with signage a mile in advance of the damage. Scantily clad young females with direction boards if you get lost and loads of pubs........................... or we could go to bognor regis!!

I could be up for a weekend camping :D
As a suggestion, South Wales/Forest of Dean sounds good. Nearest I've been to that part of the world is the M5

So far it looks like October 2nd and 3rd at a campsite in the Forest of Dean suits most of the people most of the time. Any ideas on a specific venue?

How about http://www.doward-park.co.uk/ ? Looks OK'ish (no caravans allowed ) but a 20 minute walk to the nearest pub  could put some off
Of course not many of the smaller, more accomodating sites are on the 'net. It'd be better if someone who's been to (or who's from) the Forest of Dean could recommend somewhere from personal experience - campfires allowed preferably

The End of September is still best for me.
How about :
Christchurch Caravan & Camping Site, Bracelands Drive, Christchurch, Coleford, Gloucester, GL16 7NN.
This is a Forestry Commission Site,
http://www.forestholidays.co.uk/caravanandcamping/sites/christchurch.asp
This is one of three sites in the same area.

I have been to the Christchurch site, but it was over 20 years ago. At that time a pub was within walking distance. Also I do not know their attitude to groups of bikes. Still we have a choice of two sites.. :D

A wee trip to the South Wales area of the universe end of Sept or Oct would be great. Hmmm where is the new forest, and dont say its two mile down the road from the old one....

18-08-04, 06:36 AM
Phoenix, it's the Forest of Dean not the New Forest. This is probably good for you as it's nearer to Ireland!
Is everyone planning on camping Friday and Saturday?
Anyone have any ideas for a rideout on the Saturday? Brecon Beacons for example.

OK Boys And Girls.
This is the big one.
Christchurch, http://www.forestholidays.co.uk/caravanandcamping/sites/christchurch.asp
Friday and Saturday night. Find your own way to the site. Do all your own booking, and hope to hell they take bikes. We will not be arriving as a group so the campsite will not know it is a meet.
I do not like rideouts, so I am able to stay on site and watch the equipment.
All in agreement say, Aye :?:
Else the discussion goes on

I just had a look at their terms and conditions, which say...
The price of your pitch entitles you to locate:
a) one car/motorcycle and one tent/caravan/trailer tent, or
b) one motorhome
So bikes shouldn't be a problem.
I'll be booking mine soon.

SORRY.
Sorry to hear that m8. Really bad news.
Hope you find something real quick.

Bad news Ogri. If it's any consolation everyone I know who's been made redundant has ended up getting a better job!
Getting away for the weekend might be a good way of escaping from life's hassles for a while.

I have had 5 Redundancies, so has Jill [udder arf] I have remained within my trade [still in Engineering and happier] Jill returned to College and also worked on production lines to earn a wage.
Despite feeling very bitter regarding her last redundancy, she took a totally different career turn into Nursing and is extremely happy with her career of ten years We both have survived the ordeal.
Don't be bitter, the only way is to look to forward not backwards. Don't be bitter it is destructive.
She would not have that new career without the last redundancy.

Booked my space this morning for Friday and Saturday nights. Can't see myself getting to the campsite much before dark on Friday though.
Is there a local pub that I can get a feed at?
Iain

I rang the campsite earlier and they said there are plenty of spaces this weekend so I didn't bother booking.
There is a pub called the Dog & Muffler in Christchurch, according to the OS map there are a couple of others as well. I'll dig out my Good Pub Guide tonight and see what it says.
BTW what does everyone want to do on Staurday?

Nurse my hangover, moan about the youth of today, weather, politiks, and tick like a cantankerous old man.
Dave could you meet us on the site, If the warden charges visitors meet outside the site and ride somewhere else.
There is a Pub within walking distance, as to food, it was twenty years since I was last there. I am taking all my own food for the weekend, but I might manage to eat a meal in a Pub as well.
I cannot find my OS map of the area, [most probably eaten by moths]

Thats it Bike well overloaded beer beans beer. Had to leave underpants behind due to weight. a whole weekend without a wash, bliss !!
Went away with the "Crone" she made me wash every day, plus dress for Dinner. God how awful.
Some prat at work has given me a cold, so don't be suprised if I do not turn up. I will do my best.
Phoned the site this afternoon, the shop is basic, and as far as I can attain it does not sell alcohol. Oh dear a shop with no beer

Who's idea was it to have a camping weekend ?
Who suggested October ?
The weather slowly improved the nearer I got to home, when I took my socks off my feet were white and plukey, everything is slowly drying out. Managed to get my camera to work, it was the damp.
All in all the weekend turned out very well, those who said they would be there, were. For a first camp it was a great success. a gazebo and bbq would have helped.
It was nice to have met you all. may be next year a pub site, earlier in the season might be better.
Sorry to have missed you Dave.
Just one more thing, could those who took photos email copies to me. Thanks.
Sorry to have missed you Dave.
