Just thought I'd post this here as someone I was talking to about seats for Transalps has replied.

Transalp Seats Cont'd
If you belong to the Short'Legs'R'Us club and need to sit a bit lower on a
late model Transalp there are four options but no one seems to know about
the fourth including Honda dealers or at least not the ones I know.

1 The fork can be mounted a little bit lower by loosening the screws
of the fork braces. (3cm and simple I'm told)
2 The spring pre-load on the rear shock can be reduced to lower the rear.
(2 cm and a bit more complicated I'm told)
3 Send the seat to have it re-covered and lowered or do it yourself as
suggested by Dave Slater in cix:bikers/9mechanix:520 (I pointed him to GA Wells and Son in Shepshed) or
How to recover a seat http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/howto/seatcut/

4 Honda Europe supply a seat that is 3 cms lower as a spare part.

"You can ask your dealer to order the following number : 08F82-MCB-800.

This seat is 30 mm lower than the original. He should have been able to
give you that number but I believe he was so busy searching for an excuse,
he could not check our catalogue." Ref. Spare Parts Manager Honda EU Email

PS: There are also some modified pro link rods available from a German
company which will reduce the rear by 4 cm and 2 cm respectively.

I got the lower seat through a dealer - there was a bit of confusion but they do do it.

Remember when carrying out this manoeuvre, that it's a good idea to take the weight off the front wheel before undoing all the forkleg clamps. Otherwise, as you loosen them, the whole bike slides down the forklegs in front of you. This results in the extreme cafe racer look, which doesn't really go with AT handlebars.

I refuse to tell you how I know this!
