If you've got a lock of any type that operates with the little round key you'd better get rid of it.

Yeah the type with a cap that has a little space between the outer edge of the cap and the centre. Other things will also work if it fis into the key ring/slot.

LIFTED FROM MCN :

U.S. lock firm Kryptonite has announced an upgrade and rebate program for customers after admitting some types of tubular lock can be opened with nothing more than a biro pen.
The claims spread throughout the internet, with some customers posting videos demonstrating the method of lock-picking. Although it's accepted thieves will crack any security given enough time, it's the ease of this method, and the fact it required no special tools that gave cause for concern.
The launch of the 2005 Kryptonite range has been accelerated with replacements for the New York Chain, New York Noose and Evolution Disc Lock with a Pik-Safe, dsic-style cylinder and key, alongside an updated bicycyle range. The new style locks are pick and drill resistant, and will be colour-coded to enable easy identification of the new products. The Evolution and New York locks will have black and orange crossbars, while the KryptoLok series get a black and silver crossbar.
Any owner who has bought any of the above products with a tubular lock in the last two years is eligible for a free upgrade, as long as they have either registered their key number, registered for Kryptonite anti-theft protection, or have their proof of purchase. Evolution and Kryptolok owners get a new crossbar, while New York Chain and Noose chains will get a 'Molly Lock, heavy duty steel padlock. If your lock is older than two years, then you still qualify for a sizeable rebate on the upgrades.
The other company mentioned, Oxford Products, has not formally responded yet. This method of lock-picking could be a concern for any kind of tubular lock.

Just wrecked a biro and made a mess on the study floor. I was unsucessfull with the lock, must admit I was using a pen knife to reshape the biro. My D lock is a Oxford Magnum 2000, of which is my mostly used lock, it will be taken to work next Monday where I will machine another biro to the lock dimensions. Of out with Jill to do some shopping [yes shopping is girly] Will stop of a my local local shop for a better type of lock.

Thanks for the Information :D

Just paid over £100 for a lock and chain, my local locksmith knew of this problem and assured me that the newer locks have more pins making them more secure, still did not buy that type of lock. The only problem with my new lock and chain is its weigh.

Sad to say its works with any plastic tube , done it with a cut down nozzle from a mastic gun .
I've let the bike club at work known of this , and others have confirmed it .
Its oh so easy but why do they still sell them !

I can confirm all those vids are for real :D

They're me :D

As a result of RiDE and MCN articles, those round ket locks are now mostly off the market.

HOWEVER....http://www.zanx.net/magnum.jpg

No point if you can cut them in half with croppers.

The damage to the cropper jaws behind the Oxford lock was done by an Almax Series III like Matt has.
