Hi mate,

I have the GPS V which is pretty good for trail, track & road use. You can pick them up fairly easily and as with a tv remote it all seems pretty overwhelming at first but after a few play's you realise it has only so many function some of which you will never use.

I normally go onto the Garmin site and do some comparisons.

Here is the link Garmin product comparison (http://www.garmin.com/outdoor/compare.jsp)

Pick for instance the GPS V and one of the e-trex units and you will very quickly see the difference. If it is only for hiking etc the e-trex is fine. If you want to use it on your bike or in the car go for something slightly bigger.

I reckon you should manage to find the GPS V between £200-£300 with all the software and possibly the gps mounts. Will look around for some bargains and post them here if I find any :D

Hello

I have had E-trex for 2 years and used it all over Europe and trail riding in north of England and Scotland. Its basic but if you just want to know where you are and where you want to go it does the job. Got me and my mates out of some stick moments of road when the cloud comes down and its great for planning routes with most software.

Hello fw600

Didn't get any software with E-trex but my lovely wife got me a digital map for xmas, Fugawi UK (www.fugawi.com)£50. It works great with the E-trex you can download/upload tracks and even attach photos at points of interest. It uses Ordnance Survey landranger maps and prints off A4 size only. There will be better and more expensive systems but i'm happy with what i've got. The only problem with the E-trex is the cost of cables £35 and then they wanted another £40 for serial to usb, Maplins do them for £10.
