I recently scored a nearly-new rear shock (off an '03 AT) off ebay. I fitted it today and the difference is very noticable. Less understeer, sharper handling, a tighter feel all round and the front end feels more planted. £46 well spent. :D

My guess is that I replaced the original shock which at 40,000 miles looked to be well past it's best. But then, what sort of mileage do you get from a rear shock?

I'm still on my original shock which is now four and a half years old and mega miled. To me it seems to be better than when I first got the bike, however it's more likely it's bloody awful and I've just got used to it. My bike's never been that great in a straight line but is still rock steady during 80mph sweeping bends. Mind you I'm a bit on the skinny side so it's had an easy life.....
