Well, I'm back.

Now residing in Bedford and soon to get my Alp back on the road after she had yet another lay up due to me being on the move so much last year. But I'm waffling...

I know that this is a subject that's been done to death in its many different forms on a million different motorcycle boards and so I'll apologise for dragging it up again - but to the point: I use a basic semi-syth' in my Alp and have no complaints about it. The thing is, last year saw me do very few miles so that the oil I put in last May has barely done 2,000 miles. My question is, will this oil now need replacing? It seems a real waste to chuck it out, but if (as I've heard people reccomend) you should change oil every six months even if you haven't done a lot of miles, then that's what I'll do. Any thoughts? Would you change the oil? Will it really have degraded that much?

Thanks for reading and I'll hopefully get a chance to see some of you on the roads now that I'm the wrong side of the Irish sea ;)

ahh come on, you already know what everyone's gonna say. Change it, but leave the oil filter till next time, that's what I'd do.

Hmm, if your bike has been parked in a cosy nice dry garage I would not bother, but if it was parked outside or in a damp environment there is a good chance the oil may have suffered from moist.
If you are not sure, well, Halfords do a perfectly fine mineral 10W40 for motorcycles for about 15 quid per 4 litres which isn't much for peace of mind

Better to make the change even if it's not needed, a new set of oil isn't that expensive... AND you will kill yourself if the engine goes *pofff* because of not changing oil... Doubt it will but better safe..... :D
