hey guys im reasonably new to biking, been only 23 i am just getting around to getting my bike test done.
Just wondering if you guys could help me decide what bike to get, i have been looking at the Africa Twin, the Transalp, DL650 or the ETV 1000 Caponarod, and feedback would be grateful, on all of the bikes prob gonna be doing a lot of touring around scotland with my mate who has an Africa twin, just dont know what to go for at the moment, all four bikes are good, ahhhh decisions, decisions..
cheers

A Tranny of course!
Wide comfy seat, perfect riding position, 55mpg, cheap to insure & run, cruises at 85.
AT - a Tranny in a shell suit with a sh*t narrow seat, plus a fuel pump & oil cooler to worry about.
Vstrom - I thought my Tranny was ugly but these are taking the p*ss. Also, check out that exposed starter motor, wiring & oil cooler right behind the front wheel. Plus you get no bash plate or hand guards (essential weather protection).
Capo - lovely motor I'm sure, but I've heard that changing the oil is not as simple as usual. Looks like a 2-wheeled Ford Focus.

Young Sir, the problem is if you buy anything other than an Africa Twin, you'll wish you'd bought an Africa Twin. :cyclopsani:
Character building. That's what it is!

Transalp 650 was my first bike, got it in 2003. Been a good first bike to learn the ropes on. Very easy to ride, great comfort and visibility, enough power for a newbie rider, nips in and out of traffic well, copes well with long distances, cheap to run, insure and buy ... it's a good un'.
Can't help with any other bikes you mention cos i've never ridden them.
I don't think you'd be disappointed with a TA.

How big are the TA's i have just been at my mate and had a go on his AT, but it was a bit to big for me i aint the tallest guy in the world??? lol
I've had both a TA and an AT which I have now.
To me they weren't that far apart in the performance stakes.
The TA was lower but I prefered the AT overall. Once the bench like seat was improved I should add!
I'm seriously considering a TA or Varadero as my next bike though.

Best way to find out is to just try them all. Can't judge without riding the bikes.
Goodluck!

i agree with africatijn, try to test ride them all. I did 9 testdrives on different models until i rode a AT, which i bought eventually. Ranging from BMW 1150 GS to a Honda CBR 924 Fireblade and a Cagiva Raptor

Having always wanting an AT for as long as I can remember, I walked into theHonda Dealer, looked at the bike, went home, thought about it, went back the next day, did the deal, and rode it a when I had arranged the insurance. did everything wrong, sat on the bike, but had no idea how it performed in traffic or on the open road.
Mind you, since buying the AT, I have since ridden an GS650 and a 1150GS and I wish the seat was different. (I have a spare AT seat, but aint got around taking it to be sorted yet)
