Been wearing ear plugs since 89. Easier than doing the tappets!

Depends on the length of the journey. Nipping to the corner shop: no earplugs. Nipping to the Cote d'Azur: earplugs.

I always use them, but like you Ian if I'm nipping to the corner shop tend not to, but whenever I ride back and forth to work I always use them.

I had a scary time about 8 years ago when I started to get ringing in my ears and it would take time to go away. I'd never used ear plugs at all before this point. I then started to look in to it. Tried some but hated the feeling initially. Eventually I got used to them and I've not had problems with my ears since then.

And has anyone got any tales to tell in support of using earplugs?

Yep, I use 'em 99.9% of the time when biking. I was an instant convert in the late '80's, couldn't believe the difference when I first used 'em.

'plugs assure a decent night's kip on a crowded campsite too.

I fill up with fuel every weekday and the petrol station people are always chatty, but sometimes I have to just laugh and say yes cos I don't always know what they are on about.

I only use plugs when I go any distance, or over 70 mph. I fill up with fuel every two weeks [work five miles from home] so no one at the station talks to me, in fact no one talks to me, generally they talk at me :cyclopsani:

Only use them when going on a ride longer than 5 - 10 minutes. Gives me an excyse to shout at people, wind them up by continuing to shout at them, then say "EAR PLUGS ..... IM WEARING EARPLUGS" . always funny in crowded places.

On Motorway journies, they are essential. occasionally though, I just put my walkman on, and listen to the radio :geek:
