returning to a transalp

hi, just joined!!!! :cheers: just bought a new 04 650 transalp. I got a good deal from local dealer. its a black one (they're quicker) its got panniers, top box, heated grips, taller screen,scotoiler, datatag, and a centre stand. I paid £5150, this includes 2 years free servicing (unlimited milage). i owned a 600 transalp (N reg) which I bought new and covered 55,000 miles in a year and a half and then part ex'd for a new 1997 africa twin which i sold at the begining of last year with 179,000(!!!!!) miles. the new 650 transalp is really nice to ride. well impressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbright:

I had a 600 for 24k, bought a Bandit 12 - nice motor - which I chopped in for a 650 Tranny.

I mised that relaxed comfort. Chill out, slow your life down and just flow.......

How do you find the TA after the AT?
I'm sorely tempted to get a TA when I'm ready to trade in the AT... but then again there's the Varadero...... hmmmmmm.

Varadero - best looking 2 wheeled Ford Focus I've ever seen.

I dusted my Tranny off today for the ride to work after 3 months on the XT.
It felt as big as a horse but pokey-ish and sounded lovely with the Staintune can. Starting by pushing a button felt poofterish though......

I have been tempted for the TA as well, but always thought the AT was the better built bike. After trading in the RD03 for an RD07 I am not exactly convinced anymore about that. The AT looks more exciting but I have stopped worrying about these sorts of things many years ago. I also feel the 600/650 versions of the engine are somehow superior to the 750 (vibration-wise, better revving, less fuel consumption, almost same performance). The older ones had an adventurous single disc brake but that has improved as well. I think if my AT dies I will definitely look around for a TA. :cheers:
The Varadero has a lovely engine and great comfort, but despite the fact that looks don't worry me very much, this bike just looks too revolting for me, it hurts when I look at one. I want a economic "playful" bike for daily use that I can fully maintain myself, and TA/AT are simply better at that.

I found the africa twin a better bike than the 600 transalp, the engine was stronger and the brakes better. the AT was also much better two up and with luggage. the seat wasnt as good(!) and it wasnt as agile. Being honest, i went for the 650 to use as a work horse again and to stop me getting into too much trouble. I honestly dont think theres anything much between the AT and the new 650 TA.Speed isnt a priority with this bike ( I have a Hayabusa and a much modified sv650 as well!). what i do need is reliability and a good proven bike for mileage. tyres are cheap and last well!!!!
