Hey... I can take it! BRING IT ON! :hello2:

One of the things I keep thinking on is bedline spraying the AL rad. cowls. I think this would really tie the bike together better. One day I think it'd look better... another day I like it the way it is. Hmm...

One thing's for sure... it's got a face only a mother could love. You must keep in mind the kind of "beauty" I bring into the world... well... just take a look at the '65 Landy I built from the ground up. :toothy7:

Back to the other TA then... I fab'd this heat shield awhile back. Why you ask? Well, two reasons really. One- to keep soft bags from melting. Two- to hide the F'n paint coming off the damn exhaust. I've repainted the thing like three times with no luck. Yes, I did all the right prep and used hi-heat paint... the damn thing just won't have it! :sad3: It doesn't rust or anything like that... just looks like ****.

Anyway, it does the job and I like it. Yep... it's AL too!

I also fab'd up this AL skid plate for that clean look. I like this one as you can't really tell it's there until you really look. It's made from 3/16th AL and totally protects the oil filter area.

Now that I'm getting that RD04 AT tank from Jeff... I might remove this plate and lower cowl to make a custom full sided skid plate. Something that'll tie into the AT tank (and whatever rad. cowls I use). I'm thinking of cutting down the TA rad. cowls to offer up to the AT tank as I've seen a few folks do this with good results.

I love mod'n bikes just as much as riding!

Here's the skid plate I made underneath the SW-Motech plate. Mine actually protects the full length of the lower section on the exhaust better. I'm might just weld on the sides to this one once the AT tank gets sorted.

Back to the ugly bike again... :compress:

I made the rear rack for it out of 3/16th AL. I like it as using straps with this rack is very easy.

Oh, and welcome to forum.

I was going to mod the tank for more cap., but then that's more weight to deal with... and this pig is still a pig off-road. The AL rad. cowls are actually not heavy at all. They might be ugly, but they'll hold up far better than the plastic ****e. The bike was built to take hits off-road again and again... with minimal breakage.

Tires? Yeah, you should see the center section on the rear tire. F'n bald! I'm going to be putting TKC80 tires on it very soon.

modrover
30-03-05, 06:12 PM
The ride? Yeah, it's different. The weight feels lower... not sure if it's just in my head, but the damn thing flicks much nicer in the twisties. :drunken:

I'm actually enjoying the bashing of this bike. A couple folks told me, in the past, that it was ugly, but then... nothing. I don't mind hearing it at all. I'm kind of wondering why a couple of you guys held back really.

So tell me... what about it don't you like? Is it the big AL cowls? Is it the bed liner black? Is it the headlamp/inst. cowls? Or is it just the sum of all it's ugly parts? :pukeleft: Fire away. :cherry:

:brave: with loud pipes!

Funny story... this reminds of when I was riding the SuperEnduro in our little downtown area (you know, apts. above the shops) in Washougal, WA. I was looking for a shop and had made three passes on the same street. I had come to a stop to check addresses when I heard someone scream at me, "You must have a small penis!" from one of the apt. windows!  Oh ****e, man... it made me laugh big time. I looked around, but could find no person in the windows. I took off down another street, but thought... ahh... maybe just one more lap down that asshat's street would be better! :laughing5: Well, coming down that street for the fourth time... I see this young chick getting into her car... and she's talking to this chump who's up in an open apt. window. I slow down and they both look at me kind of shocked right? Well, I rode past them slowly and looked in my mirrors to find them back talking to each other. That's when I stopped and... umm... rev'd the ****e out of that bike! Oh man, it was funny to watch. They both looked at me (me seeing this from my mirrors) like they knew why I was going it. Yeah, it was a dumbass thing to do really. I bet the little ****e up in the window thinks twice about yelling stuff at folks on the street again.

Hmm... na... that little ****e probably won't. OK... I did that all just for me!

Well, as many of you guys know... our own DavidMC is riding his Transalp just about around the world. He was nice enough to stop over at my place on his way up to BC (from there he's having the bike shipped to Europe).

I gave old JakeMetter a ring and told him Dave was swinging by... he came right over. Kind of turned into a little ADVrider meet or a small TA group thing (well, it would've been if Jake hadn't ridden that DL over... when you fixing that TA Jake?! ).

Anyway, Dave's a cool guy and let's all wish him well. It's a wonderful time of his life right now. Not many of us are able to take a year off to live. Let us live through Dave then! :hello1:

Yes, the D90 really is a good investment. We only got the D110 for one year (1993), but some of those D110s actually sell for MORE than they did new... and with 75K on the clock to boot! ****ing nuts really. I mean, it's a great rig... I just couldn't see spending that kind of money (when for much less I can build one  ).

My rig is a 1965 Series IIA. ******** you say? :D OK, I'll admit that she's not what she used to be, but she still is ALL Rover. She's now got coil springs, Rover V8, auto box (the 3-speed unit), four corner disc brakes, full roll cage, and tons of off-road protection and equipment. What can I say... I was trained to do this ****e. I'm a Rover wrench for a small Land Rover shop(mostly on the older series, classic Range Rovers, and 90/110 -the good Land Rovers  ). I did just quit the full-time work to be a stay-at-home Dad (still do some Rover stuff on weekends). I used to do a lot of 4-wheeling with my rig, but the motorcycles really took over. This poor rig will sit for a month before I even drive her (pop's right off every time though).

Hi Modrover.

I'm running a 1983 SIII swb S/W, which is my off-road toy, and I have a 1984 SIII lwb which was my light restoration project. This has turned out to be a particularly useful beast. I also have a 1995 Disco.

My cousin has a 1970 SIIa, which just seems to go on and on, although I find it a bit too crude for me.

What are those running with? Petrol or diesel motors?

Funny... I just installed some Rocky Mountain para. springs on a '73 Series III just yesterday (this was a paying job). The ride quality is so much nicer. If I hadn't done the coil setup on my '65 IIA... I'd have put para. springs on her for sure.

My wife was driving a 1988 Range Rover I kept nice. I had even installed the larger 4.2L motor... WOOHOO! For a Land Rover this one really had some get up and go! :P Sadly, the fuel economy was a total turd (like my '65 with the Rover V8)) so she wanted a 4 cyl. She's now driving a Honda CR-V. :?

landyandy
11-04-05, 03:52 PM
Oh dear ... a CRV!

The 2 sIII's are 2.25 petrols - I avoid the early diesels. The disco is a 300tdi - a good engine.

Would quite like to get a Stage 1 V8, but they're quite tricky to find in good condition over here.

Yes, I'll agree that those early diesels had issues.

It's been a trend over here (USA) now to diesel just about everything. I've installed two Tdi motors in the past 6 months. One in a NAS D90 and the other... into a Series I LWB. No ****e... a Series I! I don't have to tell you some mod'n needed to be done to make her fit right. :P

I'm guite fond of the Rover V8. I don't drive my rig that much anymore so I like the V8 motor... lots of fun off-road ya know. Plus, I can fix 'em no problem. The motor is light and reliable. I've actually got a brand new 4.0L short block in a crate on the floor of my garage. I'll be building it up some time this year. The 3.5L lump in my rig now has done over 250,000 miles... she's a bit lame now! :P

Yes... the Stage One V8s had been a really nice Rover. I've only seen one factory example, but it was nice.

Wow! MOD's got another ugly TA! :P

Say what you will... She's mine and I don't care! :P

I finished her off with some Africa Twin stickers. The AGIP I had laying about so WTF?! Might as well use them too

A bit busy? Maybe...

You can't put Africa Twin stickers on that!

You need to put... "Seriously Confused Bike".. or something on it!

When are you going to add the helicopter vertical lift system?

Notice... Transalp is still there. Also, looks far better than just "Af" and "in" on the tank

Not trying to pose as an @. Just trying something different :P

Nope. It's got just enough room so it doesn't rub a bit. I like having the higher front fender. I'm running Kenda 270 tires on it now and that front tire is a bit larger than stock... it had like a mm of room before it would rub using the stock lower fender. :o

I got out today for a lovely 100 miler. 70 miles of that off-road and the rest... errands around town.

Just a great way to start the day really! 8)

Funny you say that... the USA really does have a bunch of outback kind of roads. So what's funny? All the stupid F'n cruiser bikes we get!!!!! :?

We've got the space for the big adventure bikes, but only get like a few models to pick from. The last time Honda had a real adventure DS bike was 1990 (last year of the TA for us). Sadly... we never even got to see an Africa Twin.

I sure wish we get something other than the GS and DL bikes!

Well... after all that work? I put her totally back to stock dress. Well, close enough anyway.

Guess what else? I just sold her. Having the SuperEnduro Transalp and the fully dressed Transalp was getting to be a bit much. The SuperEnduro has a face only a mother could love so... the other TA got sold. Make a good profit on it so I'm happy. What will I replace her with? Not sure. TBC...

Here she is after I put her back to stock. Good looker she was. I'll miss her, but the fella that took her home's a Honda guy who'll take good care of her.

For those that made fun of my, now sold, Transalp with AT tank... I finally did the right thing. Sold that TA and used the money towards a 1988 Africa Twin RD03. I just did 1000 on her in less than 24 hours to get her home... she rides super nice.

Yes, we'll see. I can tell right off the AT feels more solid, but I think I'll need the whole summer off and on both bikes to really give a good report.

I put some new KINGS tires on the SuperEnduro... and just had to go out and test 'em out. :P

Work great for logging roads. Appear to handle pretty good on the street. I think they'll muck up with mud quick, but I try not to sink this beast anyway.

Wonderful day here in WA, USA for a ride. 8)
