hello to everyone

04 TA which I find once over an hour of continuous riding I become quite uncomfortable with and have a severe case of not so numb bum. The problem I am hoping could be alleviated by a more comfortable seat. Any suggestions please.

Secondly I am over 6 foot tall and I have a Honda touring screen. However I seem to experience quite a bit of wind blast but if I duck 10 - 15 cms approximately I am totally out of the wind. I wondered was there anyone out there who experienced similar problems and had come across a good solution.

Regards to all
Jak

Your seat issue I can't help with. You could try removing some of the foam (shape it with a grinder) to help distribute your ass better. I've done this to one of the seats on my XL600V with fantastic results.

The screen. I've tried a bunch of different screens on my TA. Here's what I've found... I'm not happy with any of them! :clown: I started grinding and shaping screens a few years back with great results. I'll take a taller aftermarket screen (say a ClearView) and cut the side mounting area a bit so that I can tilt the screen back more (you'll then have to drill two new side mounting holes as well). I try to get the screen closer to me. I then remove whatever height the screen still has to allow the windflow to fully hit my helmet. The one thing I've found with screens is... if I can get my helmet in full windflow? No buffeting and I still get lots of protection for my chest area.

Strangely I found that going to the Honda short-ar$e seat helped improve comfort for me on longer journeys. Wouldn't reccomend that for you though. There's always them air hawk(?) gel seat pad thingys, but they seem really expensive!. Cheaper but, so I'm told, effective is a sheep skin over the seat. So there's two options that may suit depending upon your access to a)funds or b)sheep.

As for screens: I think wheeliebin said it best when he said your choice was between turbulent or very turbulent. I've got a powerbronze flip-up screen which is FAR better than the stock at motorway speeds but is flamin' noisy! At an ankle biting 5'9" I'd say that means a high tower like you could end up no better off than with your Honda screen.

Here's a photo of what I did to my screen. Notice that I've also spaced the lower section to help cancel some of the behind the screen wind (a bit of air slips just under the screen too). I really like how this works for me. Funny thing is... if I slump down just a couple inches... the "head shakes" begin! It's that dialed into me

Do a search on seats on the AT forum and you'll get a wealth of information. If you're over the water sometime go to GA Wells & Son, vehicle upholsterers and get them to sort it while you wait for only a few quid.

Can you sit anywhere for one hour without moving and not get uncomfortable ?

Hi Jak
Almost exactly the same - 6' 2", 04 TA Touring Screen, Windblast kicks in at 40Mph.
I feel it about half way up the helmet upwards. The shorter screens are deflecting onto the Chest/Neck which means the head doesn't feel the blast/wobble, the taller one puts it all onto the Helmet. The only answer is to change your bike for a C1. Or I'd be interest to see a C1/Transalp aftermarket frontend conversion kit?
Anyone tried this yet?

I bought the Honda screen last year, like chucky says it's like going from one extreme to the other, so didn't use it.
My latest screen's another compromise, just over 3ins (80mm) lobbed off the touring screen and rounding the corners a little more (the shape of the sides & corners seem to be just as important as the length).

Thanks everyone

Not being the most technically gifted I will probably persevere or maybe do what my wife has wanted me to do for our entire married life, get corrective surgery.

Many Thanks to all again. Isn't it good to talk.

Trouble is, what suits one, doesn't suit another :bounce:
