Hi Guys

After hunting around unsuccessfully for a TA toolbox, I decided to make one. It's in stainless steel with an Alu top and took about an hour and a half. I think it looks the dogs, or am I just an anorak?

Looks wonderful!

A bit more info. please? How'd you come about a SS tube? Is that from an exhaust shop or something? Also, is it threaded? How'd you get a AL cap that fit so well? Did you fab that as well?

The st/st tube was a standard size with a 2mm wall thickness. I welded a bottom on it out of a bit of scrap sheet lying around ( approx 3mm). After that, i turned up a 2mm collar to fit the top of the tube, (it was about 10mm long) and welded it in position, cutting a thread on a lathe.

The top was turned on a lathe out of Alu ( because St to st is prone to binding), and cut a thread. Then I tarted the thing up on a milling machine to put some grip on the rim. After trying it up against the bike, I welded a fin on the top and drilled it out to except the existing bolt.( oh yeah, I had to cut a slit in that plastic thing under the side cover.

It sounds a lot harder than it is.

Trouble is with all the effort going in to them they'd probably turn out at £100 each!

That's one hot tool box Dave, almost worth sticking one on the 650, even though there's a ton of room under the seat.
Top talent mate, well done.
Very much doubt anyones pulling your chain.
Modrover might be a raving loony, but it sure would look good on his " enduro " Tranny - eh Michael

It's excellent - thanks for showing us :)

Out of curiosity - how much does it weigh?

I'll take the toolbox off next week and weigh it, then I'll let you know. At a guess, I reckon it's a few hundred grams.

You know... it would actually. Maybe even with a Laser ProDuro tip on it? Might just look like dual pipes! 8)

I was actually working that idea out some time ago. Only the diameter of my arrow exhaust is so small that a direct copy of it to look like a double exhaust would mean i still could't get any gear in it. So let the idea go.

If they don't turn out £100 a pop then I would also be interested. That sure beats the underseat scenario when you fully loaded and something goes wrong.
