I ordered front and rear TKC80 tyres Wednesday morning and received friendly and knowledgable service on the other end of the phoneline.

As TKC's in AT sizes weren't a stock item I was told they'd arrive 'by the weekend'. They arrived Thursday morning (the following day). £125 including a £7 delivery charge. :D Top service.

They also do a ride-in-ride-out fitting service (which I'll probably wish I'd taken advantage of!)

Good choise of tyres. I've been using TKCs for the last two months and am v impressed.

And changing the tyres by yourself is so much more fun... :lol:

Did the front without any problem but the rear has defeated me...so far!

I'm searching the forums for tip on getting the tyre off, I just can't get it started :?

...Ah ha! Just found the thread I was looking for, it was one of your posts Kiroh! I'll try Muckybill's WD40 tip in the morning :)

Haydn, the front is relatively straight forward. Just get the bead right into the centre of the rim well opposite where you're going to start with the trye levers. When you put the tyre back on make sure the rotation direction is right(!) and also, when you've got the tube in partially inflate it so it just holds it's shape but is very compliant - this should make it far more difficult for you to nip the tube.

The rear is a different matter. It appears as though there are the rim has a raised section, like tubeless rims, it is much more difficult to start to get the bead into the rim well. I'm going to have another go at it this morning. See the thread below for some tips. I'm going to try and get some WD40 inbetween to tyre and rim and let is soak for half an hour and then use a G clamp (actually a valve spring compressor) to try and break the bead.

Good luck!

Are the TKC's ok for onroad use ?
I do about 90% of my riding on the black stuff, and only really venture offroad occasionally. The T66's are almost dead now, and I need a new set of tyres. I was contemplating the Touraces. I know there's thread after thread on Tyres, but how do you find really agressive tyres on road ?

Wear ? Vibration ? handling ?

Just ordered a pair of TKC80s from these guys for the HU weekend. A 90/90-21-54S for the front, and a 140/80-17-69Q at the back. Total cost £125.25 including delivery. Apparently in stock, so should be with me by the time I finish writing this message...

Snap, so have I..... although not from these people.
I tried my local dealers first who couldn't get any fronts and then I tried Busters who appearded to have them in stock and haven't said otherwise so I await with baited breath!

you rufty tufty blokes who fit your own tyres - what dop you do about balancing?

I'm willing to believe that on a bike like the AT you don't need to bother balancing the wheels, but if you're going to perform this experiment rather than me, so much the better :D

Apparently not. :( Just been to the parcel depot to collect my tyres...and I've been sent 1 TKC80 rear and 1 Escape front. Not impressed. :x It's not even an easy mistake to make, as the the tyres are bound together and the two tread patterns are completely unalike.

So, I'll give them a call in the morning and see if they want to rectify the mistake before the weekend. More to follow...

Sorry they sent the wrong tyre :( , if i am totally honest i wasn't impressed with the telephone service but i did get the tyres, and on the day i promised. :lol:

but sometimes i prefer people who haven't got a good phone manner if they get the job done and know what they are talking about, if you know what i mean :wink:

Guy on the phone apologised for the misdelivery, and put it down to a picking error in the warehouse. Fair enough, these things happen. :? They're going to send the correct tyre out (I hope) on their overnight delivery, and take the wrong tyre back. The only down side is they can't guarantee when the delivery will happen. So I may get the tyre at 5pm, have to fit it, and then ride up to the HU meet...

...but as promised the tyre turned up at 9am this morning. So kudos to BFM for correcting their mistake. 8)

A good tip for changing tyres is to do it when the tyre is warm
eg on the side of the motorway after a flat!!!
or if planed just use up that last bit of tread ( 2 doughnuts? ) come straight in to the garage and get on with it

I bought a set of tyres from here
http://motorcycleproducts.co.uk/catalogue/index.php/cPath/331
Not only were they cheap with free delivery but I ordered them via the web site on Monday & they arrived the very next day! I have since ordered some Putoline oil which is a fair bit cheaper than they sell at my local dealers.

I put a set of Conti Escapes on...again from this lot, next day delivery...£120 inc delivery. I've just done 1500 miles loaded in Europe and I feel they are a better handling tyre than the Metz Tourances I had on previously. I'll be back on TKC80's once the Escapes are worn out though.

What's the difference between the 69Q and the 70R rear tyre..?

I think I might have answered my own question. I knew the letter refered to the speed rating, wasn't sure about the numbers.

Yes you did :) :)

Q = up to 100mph

H = up to 130mph (recomended rating)

If your geared for off road I guess 100mph is enough.
