View Full Version : Salisbury Plain - Sunday 2nd October
Well after the success of the last one it seems rude not to get the ball rolling for the next one.
So who's up for a bash across the plains on Sunday 25th September? Add it to your diaries now.
And can we have someone that knows where they're going as well, like Jason or whoever led this last one.
I have a huge concern that someone may expect me to know where I'm going!
To keep it easy we'll meet again at the Countess services, Amesbury, just by the junction of the A303 and the A345 at 10:00am looking to get going just after.

Try and keep me away.
And try and keep me on two wheels this time..............
Just gotta break the news to the missus; after all she's gonna have some clothes to clean afterwards. Pity I don't trust her to clean the bike :?
Richie, am I reading thinks wrong but are we not in Wales that weekend?.
But are you thinking early start Sunday down to Countess and have a day in the mud.

Come to think of it I may have jumped the gun a bit there. Getting things a bit confused what with the BMF the week before the Wales trip! Would love to try and get down on the Sunday morning in time but that would be pushing it a bit too far I reckon!
Well, the Wales trip has to come first - Dave, any chance of knocking the Salisbury Plain visit back by a week? You'd have 2 more takers!
Good idea don't want it to clash.
2nd October then.

Ahhh 2nd October... sorry guys, count me out of this one.
Last diving weekend of the season. Weather permitting, I shall be decending into the depths of the south Coast to swim with the fish and catch me some Fresh Lobster

I'll be there as well. Ogri will probably have a heart attach when he sees what I'm doing to his (ex) bike, but like I said - If I don't do trips like these I might as well have bought a road bike.

Hi, sorry to crash in, but as you all seem to know the area around the plain.
Do any of you know of any biker friendly pubs where we could camp over night. My brother and I are planing a couple of days ride around that area ish may take in the ridgeway as well and need a base preferably a pub.
Trip will be on wed/thurs 21/22 sept if any of you are in the area we could meet up for a pint?

Biker friendly Pubs ? ... Hmmmm all the pubs are biker friendly, but im not sure if they would let you camp.
The ridgeway is almost off limits these days due to the enduro idiots that tear it to pieces. There are one or two camp sites close to the plain.. if im about later I'll get their details.

Thanks that would be great as for the ridgeway I was hoping to cut it by the A34 and follow it down to foxhill.
Chalkzter, There's a camp site on the North of the plain as you enter the village of Tilshead. As you enter coming from the Salisbury side, the site is on your left. You'll also be pleased to know there are 2 pubs within 5mins walking distance. I pass it every day on my commute. If you want more details just let me know.
Just a reminder that this is this coming Sunday.
Can we have a final show of hands.

Can someone teach me how to wheelie before the weekend please
Thinking about coming up if I can persuade wifey to let me out, but first a question, TA riders do you use the oe deathwings off road or something else thats rated for dual use if so what?
BTW I have absolutely no off road experience on this bike, only Harley crossers on sand! How do you rate the tracks that you use experience wise?

Hi mate if you can stand on the pegs and not scared of riding on gravel no probs. We take it easy and no one tries to be the next Dakar King so you should be fine. If all else fails you can turn around and go home without anyone shouting LOZER :D
The tracks are relatively good with a few potholes which you can aviod quite easily. You can adjust your riding style as you get more confident and relaxed.
Maverick, so you want to give me a shout when your on yoru way home and collect that crash bar ?
Yes please mate, pm me your details then I can give you a call or if you not there just leave it somewhere outside so I can pick it up.
Thanks!
What we doing about the weather?
Are we carrying on even if its pissing down like real AT riders or are we going to stay in like GS riders. ;-)

Tough one! I've got the crash bars, tank cover and a new set of Heidenau tyres so should be OK with most low speed spills and as far as I can gather we'll be cruising at a gentle pace. I vote we go for it. :thumbleft: If it's too wet we can always find a friendly pub....
Lootch,
For those of us that can't come to Salisbury, can you let us know how you get on with your Idunno tyres?

No problem Simon. I've been meaning to post my experience to date with the tyres but as they're still fairly new and not quite scrubbed in I thought it might be a bit premature. I'll post a reply in the tyres thread after the weekend. By then they'll be scrubbed in and I should have plenty of experience on- and off-road in the wet and dry. For now I'm (very) impressed.
Louis
Well either way I'll be there for 10am.
Leaving about 08:30 ish.
My mobile is 07736 359593 if anyone wants to contact me before I leave.
See you all there rain or shine.

So where's the trip report and photo's of all the carnage, mechanical mayhem, blood, sweat, tears, hospital visits and tales of daring do ?
Would love to have gone but, a mate was flying at Old Warden in the last flying display of the year and I thought I might get up for a spin, sadly I was mistaken but, it was a good show. LB.

Sorry to disappoint you LB, but there was no mechanical carnage (tried really hard but we're just too damn good! Or lucky??), blood or tears. Plenty of laughs and mud though!
Maverick and I are compiling the photos and we'll post it tonight or tomorrow.

 yep that was us dude! Sorry we could not find your place and just sent you a pm. I will post the pics up tonight as it is a bit manic at work today.
Yeah thanks to Louis and Dave for the ride and was very good and sometimes very wet  Luckilly only came off once at walking pace and no major damage.
Yep it was excellent fun.
It was due to get so much better when we found the tank range but got told by the rangers that we couldn't play there.
Bah.
I also dropped my bike at standstill shortly after watching Maverick drop his! Only resulted in mud in the footpeg though so got away with it.
Come on lads, who's got some pics to post, I need to see 'em!!
