Three months ago I returned to bikes, for fun only, and bought a 54 plate demonstrator Transalp from CJ Balls in Norwich. It’s a great bike that has re-ignited my long lost love affair with bikes but the problem is that I find it bloody uncomfortable. My arse aches after an hour and despite having put on a touring screen, I find that the wind aggravates an already dodgy back and neck. Therefore, I thought that I would change to Varadero. Problem is that I am a professional short arse at 5'8" and I am concerned that I may not be man enough for it. It weighs a ton and I worry about embarrassing myself in Tesco's car park (with the bike!).

Has any short arsed Varadero riders with bad backs and arses prone to aching have any advice.

Just shows you have to be a bit tougher to ride a Transalp 8)

 Just think how tuff them Africa Twin riders are.

(seriously, every Honda dealer I know has a vara demo bike. I'm sure if you explain your reasons they'd let you have an extended demo ride)

I think you may be surprised at how manageable a big bike like the varadero is. As wheeliebin sez, get down to a dealers and plonk yer arse on one!

If it helps. I had a Varadero for a year (yes a proper 1000 cc one not the 125) and I am only 5'6" and it was never a problem for me. Then I swapped it for a Triumph Tiger which again was not a problem and now I have just changed to an Africa Twin.

Height is not an issue as you only need to get one foot down to balance the bike when you stop.
