At last a bit of time to relay my thoughts since changing my AT for a vara.
Good points;
comfortable seat
power
reserve light
weather protection
Brakes
Lights
The seating makes for a happier less num bum! much better than the "bench " on the AT.
Does not matter which bike i ride, 6months later you always want more power, however i have to say that i'm more than happy with the extra horses from the vara, "at the moment"
What a joy not having to fumble around at strange angles under my left knee, in big gloves to find the fuel tap :D
My vara is fitted with a high screen (someone called it a "ski jump" ) !
but added to the slightly wider upper faring does give added wind a rain protection.
Some have said that they dont like the "linked brakes" that they "lack feel" well i dont think i've used the rear brake pedal yet (on road that is)
yes i have taken it off road. :twisted:
The lights on the AT were good, these are better.
Bad points;
only 5 gears
gear change
cast wheels
handle bars
weight
Being a early vara, carbs and 5 gears gives me 95mph @ 5500 rpm which returns around 40-42 mph
At time the gear change has been a bit "tractor like" dont know if its me or the bike? 3 months later should be used to it by now :?:
Dont like cast wheels, want spoked ones :(
Being used to the wider bars of the AT, im going to fit a set of renthals. I also hope this extra leverage will help tip its massive bulk into corners easier.
When i first got my vara after 4yrs with my AT, i thought "what have i done" but know 3 months later its growing on me more every day. I ride about 40 miles daily to work and back all year round. And a bit of green lanes at weekends.
Metzeler Tourance, great for both.
Photos when i've more time
Thanks, marcus
