View Full Version : Christmas Camp 27th Dec 'Lakes'
A few of us are Camping for one night on the 27th December at Sykeside camp site, Botherswater in the Lake District.
http://www.sykeside.co.uk/
The site has a walkers bar on site and a pub within 100m which serve food, I've camped a good few New Year's there and its always a great night.
All are welcome to join us ( even in cars ). The pub has accommodation for those not wishing to brave the weather, Please check for spaces.
I need to book the camping pitches soon as they've said it's filling up.
Looking forward to usual XRV hospitality. :D

Why, it's only a ferry trip and short ride!
Ok Guys
Waiting till end of this week before booking the site, those who dare to attend speak up.
Anyone that hasn't camped through the winter its great fun, you just need warm clothes and a thick sleeping bag or in my case two thinnish ones. the only problems arise is if its very wet but hey thats just the same as summer.

Would love to but can't justify the trip for just one night. Why can't you lot move closer (and bring the Lakes with you!)
Have a good 1
Richie I keep looking at the photo's of Salisbury Plain and wish it was closer to us 'up North'. Down there last summer in the camper with family and it looked great. How will the NERC laws affect access down there. I think up in the Dales were just about stuffed.
The lakes is only about 5 hours from London.
IanS
Sorry! 5 hours 1 minute and 293.7 miles.
"just down 't' road" as we say up here
Only teasing :D

If I did come up, i'd be missing the lovely cloud of toxic smoke that I am beggining to get used to down here!
Now you're jealous!!!
It will be all gone by then, unless another plant gets 'accidently' blown up.

Ian, never mind Sailsbury plains, weve got better than that up here, without all the traffic and smog
Trouble is no one wants to go out to play
Phil
New year mate and your on, there must be loads of tracks over your way.
Let me know about the Lakes camp sooner the better.

Would love to ride up but this xmas it's some quality time with my missus and her new puppy
I went up to Lake District few weekends ago and lot's of ice on the roads, scared the hell out of me
I want to go  Shame its not in northern ireland

It might be a bit far to come for one night!
If there is a Haggis run or something similar next year i think you could see a few of us over from Northern Ireland if i have anything to do with it. The Northern Ireland memembers need a bit or encouragement and coaxing to meet up but i'm working on it. Since i joined the site in the summer i've managed to meet up with Eugen1, Phoenix, fw600vj and Samih. Even managed to get Eugen1, Samih and I all to meet at the same time! :o
I'll keep trying.
Going to book pitches Tuesday morning, any last minute takers Pm please. There may be places for those holding off to check the weather before commiting, but the site did recommend we book up.

Sure beats sittin' around feeling bloated (and hungover)
Fancy a ride over together, either meet down your way and head along the A684, or meet at Scotch Corner services for a run along the 66?
Phil
PS- hopefully santa's bringing me a survival bag and a handlebar brace, be a shame not to try 'em out!!!
Have to work untill 2pm but it would be great to ride over together, hoping to get camp set up before dark.
I too am hoping to try out new toys if Caveman can perform miracles.

Not for long :? miles of ques. Filter we said.
The nice fresh snow in the outside lane slowly was fine,
My TKC's doing fine.
Down hill to Brough 1st gear, Snagger tried out his trick ice skating skills
and down he went.
Bike ok apart from snapped rear brake lever.
Continued into Brough riding on grass verge to stay on wheels.

That was a trip and a half :?
Or is that only half a trip
I don't care much for travelling on dual carriageway (well any road) that is a TOTAL sheet of ice, add a down hill and an imminent STOP.
Well waddya expect :crybaby:
A change of plan, head to Ians, couple of beer's and a curry, leaves an overall feeling that, despite being cut short it was still a GOOD trip.
Think of it as "character building" :!:
At this point I'd like to say, many thank's to Ian for his hospitality and never ending cups of tea
Also warm thank's to the lady from the chippy in Brough, for opening up specially, to two cold wet, battlescarred bikers to make us a cuppa and biccy and who refused payment.
Nice to know there's good people out there, it's certainly going to be a stopping off point for me in the future :)
I'd also really like to thank the AA (Absolutly Abysmal...) for F*CKING me and Ian about big time today.
Phoned for recovery at 11.00. Collection time- ETA 13:20,
1500-still nothing.
Another quick call "'errm we're still trying to locate a garage with suitable recovery vehicle...."
Well thank's for keeping me informed  .
B*STURDS
You'll sure be getting my money next year.
NOT!
Are we mad.
Well yes, I think we are
Phil
Just found this icon-cool!- :downtown:
51 hours from first call, the AA finally picked up Snaggers bike. Great service guys, I'll stick with the RAC.

The AA advertise they have more trucks than anyone else, its must be there control staff I would trust to run a kids party.
I might have been a different story if we were stuck with a dead bike on top of the A66 at -7deg
Anyway on a happier note, we survived ok. and look forward to the next adventure. :D

My poor lickle mot'r'sickle
Thoroughly washed and wrapped up inside, away from that nasty snow
Cheers to the AA guy's. Pleasure to do business :argue:
Even recovery guy was slagging them off, told him "if the roads are bad, don't bother going....."
Rant over 8)
Whens' next trip?

That looks bloody freezing guys, snow is ok but ice is just downright ridicilous. Glad you got home ok, had the same "brilliant" customer service from the AA in January when it snowed. Bike broke down at 18:00, I got home 20 miles down the road at 00:30 Was freezing my ******** off and no shops or anything close by unfortenately. Asked a security guard if I could leave the bike next to his box so I can get a trailer just shrugged his shoulders and said he wouldn't advice it because it's not a safe area

Big vice + Big hammer + Big Anvil + Big welder
SORTED
Chad, Thanx for the offer mate.
Now looking for a couple of donor levers to graft a "sprung" end onto gear/rearbrake levers.
Maverick; being stuck like that sucks.
Do you think there's less "money" in recovering bikes, so they get put down the list of important jobs......
Fortunately we made it back to the comfort of Ian's Safe & Aound, a little scary riding in a blizzard relying on front brake only :?
