I'm booked to be in Windermere for the Friday night. Trying to work out how little weight I can come with yet still bring the camping gear??

Austin - keep me posted if you're doing a recce trip any time. I'll make some queries with some mates in Barrovia and see if they have any knowledge of riding across

There's a video on youtube of John Craven walking across and it seems to vary from hard sand to rather slippy looking mud.

I if you are of the fairer sex (or you plan to bring one with you) I would have a look around the 4 minute 15 second mark. You may want to come prepared.

    I'll be alright I'm at least a '10 pinter' !

Crossing looks ok to me. Maybe a little slippy in places but think I'll still probably go on the bus.

By "Prepared" ladies, I think young Boris is saying string bikini's are the best form of attire for this slippy mud, which means of course you won't be needing tons of uneccesary clothing in your topbox!!

I volunteer to bring the squeezy bottles and sponges to get the mud off! Hope you don't mind cold water in the squeezy bottles!

    Mr Whealie

If you come to Piel Island, as our resident vegetarian, could I ask a favour??

If you look at the first segment of that John Craven YouTube article, you will see them talking about "Samphire".

I ate this veggie at a friends house last year, and it is a bit of a delicacy, so I would urge you to harvest some and cook it (with an extra portion for me please!!)

I'll try and get their recipe.

Excellent find boris. I scoured YouTube looking for vid just like this. The first bit of the crossing looks a bit muddy but no worse than a muddyish track. The rest looks easy. I reckon if it's low tide it will drier too.

Samphire...... I love it. It needs about 2 minutes in
boiling water then drain and put some butter on.
