    Bike to BIke

Fitting up the Starcom at the moment. Phones done, gps done,Ipod done and PTT fitted now just need to sort Bike to bike.
Went over to starcom with my BT freeways and found they were not compatible with the leads thay make (they were on permanent transmit when connected to the starcom) so in necessitates geting two new handsets, one for me and one for mudwiz to so I can essentially be a n extra set of eyes and ears behind him on the end to end.
The starcom people do various pmr's ranging from the g7 midland at about 20 quid to the kenwood at 160 quid and a few in between. What's being used by everyone out there, what are the experiences of the various handsets etc?

Pale Rider has just ordered 2 Midland G7 radios that we will be using (i think they were G7 anyway) i'm sure he can confirm...we are just in the process of trying out all the PTT features on our old radios trying to get the best setup as he has just fitted his new speaker into his Nolan helmet so hopefully we will be fully set up come the big day

    hi,

i use an intaride system. i have used these everyday when working and have never had a problem. they allow gps/ipod/phone bike to bike etc and are also blue tooth.

they use a variety of transmitters and are completely bomb proof. c u 21st.

I've got a Midland G7 with a 12v battery adapter on it that lives permanently under the Vara seat, powers itself off the bike battery. Seems pretty good to me.

Also used Cobras too in the past...not much to choose between them really.

Starcom's basic unit (forget it's name - motorola maybe). It works fine.

Moved to Bike Tech as it's not really about a Charity Event. More likely to get more responses too

    Re: Bike to BIke

We use cheap cobra PMR with the autocom at around 30 quid for 2 at Maplins. I ended up making up the interface leads myself as I wasn't prepared to pay what autocom were asking for a couple of connectors, a switch and a 1K resistor.

Range is nothing like the 3 or 5 miles claimed but it is certainly more than sufficient for our needs.
