Torque Wrench question

Hi Everyone,

I need to buy a torque wrench for working on the Tigger. Most wrenches (affordable ones) have ranges from 10-80nm, which seems to cover most of my needs.

I've got some parts that need lower settings, like 6-7nm...

If I use a wrench with 8nm as a lowest setting and just pull the bolt back a bit when it's reached 8nm, would that work, or would I ruin the bolts?

Any help is appreciated!

It is a pain. I have two torque wrenches just because of this problem.

I think if you do them up tighter than spec you'll probably have to always do them up that tight. The danger is shearing off the bolt.

Have a look at my review of a cheap torque wrench Clarke 3/8" Drive Reversible Torque Wrench.

I've since bought the Halfords Pro one as it consistently gets top marks and what's more where there is an overlap between it and my quality large torque wrench they both agree with each other which is reassuring. I couldn't say the same for the cheap one.

There's a draper one on Amazon, but at £28 it sounds cheap. Also, one of the reviews says it's not very accurate...

Not an issue my Teng 1/4"" Torque wrench goes that low. They also do 2 different 3/8" + 1/2" ratchets with different spring loads so you can select the one that suits. I have 3

I've got 2, both from Proxxon. One is 20-100Nm (3/, the other 5-30Nm (1/4).

Word of warning: Trying to get 8Nm from a big 100Nm torque wrench won't be very accurate, it's easy to overshoot the mark with a big arm like that.

The smaller and more accurate you go the more you will pay. Not uncommon to pay £80 for a good 0-8Nm baby wrench.

Usually like a screw driver with twist barrel.

I ended up going for the 8-60nm Halfords wrench. It covers most of the stuff I want to do.

I'll look into buying a smaller one and/or bigger one, when I know how much money i've got left after TLD and my vacation...

It worked fine for my brake & oil change... I'll need a bigger one for stuff like changing the chain & sprockets. But I hope I won't need to until I get back from Spain...

dont do it up to the highter setting and then undo it a bit!
the torque setting is there to protect the structure, and to allow the usually expendable cheap fastener to do the optimum job without stripping the threads in your soft alloy casings. if you do what you said it would already be too late.

if you are that worried about torque settings for that light a force get a decent wrench, but be warned ones that small are expensive, and for one so accurate that it could tell the difference between 6 and 8Nm very expensive.
