Front Brake Micro-Switch

With the MOT looming closer, I did a quick check and noticed that the brake-light didn't come on from the front-brake

I mentioned this to Chad and he said it was probably the micro-switch

Ignorance being bliss I found and removed said micro-switch and took the cover off. I gathered that the points need to be cleaned but thought I could get to them easier if I took the switch apart

You certainly can get to the points easier once you've taken the switch apart BUT DON'T DO IT

I probably spent the best part of an hour trying to reassemble the bloody thing once I'd cleaned the points It's like a miniature mechano set in there!!

After very nearly gently applying a 14-pound hammer to said switch I actually managed to get it back together AND it works

If anyone else comes up with the same problem, I'd recommend cleaning the points WITHOUT taking the whole thing apart - just to see how it works 'cause it's a real barsteward to get back together

Oh well, all's well that ends well

Re: Front Brake Micro-Switch

Did the same with my propstand switch, little springs in there, went all over the place, got one off a Aprilia RS125, exactly the same, £5 off Fleabay.

Then bashed the old one with a lump hammer

Felt better then

Re: Front Brake Micro-Switch

I didn't think the switch would be too pricey, just enjoy the sense of achievement from actually getting it back together AND working

I was rather close to applying the hammer though, must admit

Re: Front Brake Micro-Switch

As they are small I have to say I would rather purchase a new one and be done with it.
