Sticky Throttle Grip?

For some reason my throttle grip no longer springs back as it should when you take your hand off it. The Grips don’t seem to be rubbing on anything but it still sticks. I have tried to spray it with WD40 but it seems to make little difference. Only positive thing is on start up at least I can set it at a few revs to get the engine warm while I unlock it.
Any ideas how to solve the problem?

Re: Sticky Throttle Grip?

Also remember that some cables with a nylon inner don;t like being oiled as the oil makes the nylon swell and jam

Re: Sticky Throttle Grip?

Well it could be a few things, namely, the return spring, cables, or throttle grip.

Check the spring, although I don't think it will be this.

Lube the cables properly, and as Kymmy says, if they are nylon coated, avoid using oil/grease and instead use silicon spray or silicon grease.
Lube inside the throttle cam and make sure neither of the cables is frayed.

The grip is probably where the problem is, and I'm guessing it will be either...

A bar end forced in and fouling the grip

Rust or dried grease between the grip and handlebars

Damage to the end of the handlebars which pinches or snags the throttletube/grip.

Re: Sticky Throttle Grip?

It only started happening as the rethal grips started to dietarian. But can’t see anywhere it may be rubbing but will lube cable with silicon spray tomorrow and see if that solves it. Thanks folks

Re: Sticky Throttle Grip?

Check the cable routing if you have had the tank off recently

Re: Sticky Throttle Grip?

Took it apart last night and it looked dry and dirty gave it a liberal coating of WD40 since had run out of silicon spray then left to soak over night. Went for a test drive today and WOW what a difference smoother throttle response and acceleration all this time I thought the juddering throttle control way my bad riding
