    GS1200 rusty shaftdrive

    Hi all,
Just after some advice on a bike I've seen for sale near me...
2005 GS1200 13K mls including all BMW luggage £6K (Originally up for £7K now dropped to £6K - its a car dealer selling this bike)

Looking around the bike there's wear on the frame at the foot pegs, rust on the main engine casing/ block at the front (directly behind front wheel), a few scratches here and there... What really caught my eye was the flexible seal on the shaft drive was not seated properly so I had a look behind and found that the shaft drive was rusty..... and not knowing much about these thought I'd ask...

With the trouble that LV has been going through, is this the first signs of the shaft drive on a slippery slope to failure... ? and is the bike worth the price... looks like its not exactly been looked after but can the 1200's take the stick that the 1150 can ?

    Cheers

the shaft runs in the air in the torque tube so if the seal has been unseated then moisture could get in. Beemmer paint and brake servo's are the only things that realy let the bike down I 'd have it, then get it serviced or at least drain the bevel unit of EP90 and refill.

1200's are prone to wear on the frame near the footpegs. Mine's a 56 plate and the finish on the frame is wearing. I keep meaning to get some sticky backed carbon fibre for it.

front engine covers are renown for corrosion on the earlier models. I had an 05 and it was corroding. It would have been changed under warranty but I changed the bike.

What J said about the final drive.

Every Honda owner knows his machine is ahead of the Germans so why worry ? I thought this was a Honda forum ? BMUU ? Recycled panzer.
