I take it there are few if any R1100GS owners here... and most are over on advrider, right?

    Re: R1100GS

(Not seeing any images by the way.)

They have come down in price ever since the 1200 came out, and lately they're getting really low.

Meanwhile airhead prices are going up, it's cheaper to get a good 1100 than a good 100 nowadays.

(Though if you're looking for a really cheap non-allroad boxer, there's always the 1100RS. Those go for pennies. The GS still has the Charlie&Ewan markup...)

Yes the R100GS is to expensive for what it really is IMHO.
As you say, one can get an R1100GS for less money.
    (At least here in Sweden)
I personally given up the thoughts of buying an BMW.
The ones I can afford, has done to many tours and are ready for major overhauls.

    Re: R1100GS

Airheads are starting to become "classic" and sought after, thus leading to silly prices.

They have their faults too, so if you're looking for value for money I'd say get a decent 1100. They will do quite a lot of miles without major problems, as in I'd happily consider one with a ton on the clock if it's been well looked after (and the gearbox still feels right).

That said, I don't like the new fourvalves, the telelever frontend is too clinical and boring.

    Airhead flexi-frame for the win

4500e (3350 quid) for a 100k km (~60k miles) R1100GS, year 97. Slightly damaged side cases (fixable), some gearbox issues (known and avoidable).

Full of goodies and well maintained.

    Re: R1100GS

Round here 3500-4000 euro is starting to become a normal asking price for a <100k km 1100 GS.

A quick look gets me a '94 with 70k km and panniers for 3500, or a '98 with 104k km and revised gearbox for 3750, or a '97 with 75k km and HB alu boxes for 3950. Lots of people still asking silly prices ofcourse, it's not hard to find someone asking 6000 for a 1100. But 6000 will get you an 1150 with a bit of searching around.

I'd stay well clear of any BMW with gearbox issues, personally. (Depending on how cynical you want to be that could mean all of them, but errrr. ) That, or budget for a repaired or replacement box in advance.

    3 500 Euro:

    1981 R89 G/S with 60 000 km's

I really would like to own one of them, but it would mean selling my 1998 @ with only 10 000 km's

Nah, not worth it I recon.

    Edit:
