    Re: Electrical question

Thanks Boris, exactly the info I was looking for, I'll check the harness when I complete the service tonight. Yes, it's a 650 single, 06 may be considered old but rather you tell Fiona her four yr old bike is "old".

I have an 04 Transalp and I do not think it is "OLD".

Ha. I'd rather not thanks you. Unless of course I had a bottle of Kümmel handy to soften the blow. I did put the "old" bit in quotes and I was referring to the single 650 as opposed to the newer 650 (800) twin.

    I think I'm digging a hole here.

    Re: Electrical question

Cheers J, that's the sort of info I was looking for, been too busy to look on the forums lately, checked the harness from the ignition and found no faults but a sticky relay due to lack of use or corrosion after the winter could be the problem. At least it's serviced now, was taken out for a Chinese eat all you can Buffet at Jimmy Cheung's as payment, after much food and too much beer I'm now resting!!! I've a week off next week so I'll get time to have a better look at it then, cheers mate.

    Re: Electrical question

Well, following Fiona's bike stopping constantly it looks like the ignition was the problem, a spray and a good work out seems to have solved the issue but time will tell. The oil leak would appear to be the rocker cover gasket, so removed it and administered much instant gasket!
So, hopefully the electrical fault has been repaired and the oil leak seen to but we'll find out tomorrow as she's off to the local dealers for tyres, that'll give it a run and we'll see if it's all good.
The local dealer said the local bike trainer's GS is leaking the same so possibly an issue with these 650's? Once the gasket's compressed it doesn't seal the same after doing the tappets? Plenty of instant gasket sorts it out though!

I think on the older bikes a new gasket was part of the procedure.
    Head off
    Check tappets
Clean off old gasket and ensure surface is clean.
Replace with brand new gasket and an empty wallet.
