Some of those F singles do have a bit of a reputation for electronics. The engine itself is a peach, but some of the other stuff may have been borrowed from the Italians.

They also had some problems with the front forks blowing up and the wheel fallling off.

an update on the hot starting issue,

BMW seem to have a fix that works now,

some of the guys on F650.co.uk have the fix fitted and so far so good.

Great! I'll check and see what they say about it.

I have a good offer on my Yam as a part exchange for a spanking brand new F800GS Trophy.
I'll decide on wednesday if I'll go for it.

    Re: Bmw g650gs sertao

Hello, I am new here, hope you don't mind me bumping an old thread? I bought my Sertao in May 2012. Got 7,000 miles on the clock now.

I like it. But, they have skimped on buuld quality too in my opinion.

I crashed mine off road last summer before I'd run it in, it needed new handlebars and the forks adjuting in the yokes.

I hope no one will object to me adding these two videos, one of the crash and one a review giving my honest opnion of my bike.

I have not had a problem with the exhaust falling off, or the mudguard snapping, as MCN reported. The hot start issue, I presume was fixed by the garage, I had the bike from new, but it wasn't ready when I went to pick it up, it was in bits in the workshop and they gave me a courtesy bike to ride home and delivered mine the next day. Never had a problem with hot starts.

Annoying habit of resetting the clocks (not odometer) at random times. So zeros the time clock, and the trip meters, and I use trip meters to keep an eye on when I need to fill up.

Also back sprocket very worn at 7k.

To some extent I think this is valid for the F800GS aswell.

    Thanks for sharing the movies!

Hope You got away alright from that spill. Looks as if You got your leg trapped under the bike.

yeah I was stuck, I waited for my friend to lift it off me, I do have moto cross boots now but still need knee pads

but I bought an XR 250 for off roading. mostly ride that.

today I rode my Sertao 126 miles. I put 6 litres of petrol in when it was on reserve, and got 111 miles before the reserve light came back on. Rode it very sparingly though.
