Alu Panniers (the easy way!)

This is my first bodge job on the TA!

I really wanted some hard luggage for my TA but couldnt afford the amazing prices, so, whilst out at a car boot I was lucky enough to spot these boxes (yes I know ex-army 7.62mm ammo crates), I think they do the job?

Re: Alu Panniers (the easy way!)

Unfortunately the framework was brought off internet for £105 (bloody exspensive but i thought i had better get proper ones as i dont know how to weld), the boxes are made of thin steel (I think), they are ammo boxes dated from 1965 and cost me £10 for the pair (bloody good deal as they are hard to come by), as for weight i couldnt give the exact amount, they feel quite light and the frame handles them with ease. It was a bugger trying to line them up on the frame, use a spirit level and drill holes all by myself (I have just screwed them on at the moment).

Lastly, NO i am not giving them away... lol

Re: Alu Panniers (the easy way!)

I was looking at doing a similar job on my DR800, as the Hepco & Becker option ran to about £500 for it...

The boxes are easy to come by in the Netherlands, the problem with the ones I found was weigt. They were all quite heavy.

Your success has inspired me , so I'll start looking again for the DR.

Happy trails!
