I bought mine at hein gericke, about 7.99 i think. might be cheaper at an rs store or maplins.

Not sure about waterproof but it's got a cover, and I mounted mine under the seat on the vara so you access it from the nearside through the gap in the panels. wired straight to the battery with an inline fuse, and never had any water ingress issues in a years use. i use it for the optimate every night, and charging everything from mobiles to cameras when i'm out and about.

    pics etc are here:

(very common on bt equipment from the old days and still used by BMW now i do believe) but try finding a phone/ipod/sat nav or anything with a din plug end. you have to have an adaptor plug or change the end of every item to din and then your chargers won't work in the car or other peoples bikes.
I don't advise anyone to plug anything in in the rain or when riding along, you risk not only blowing the fuse in the plug in item but also the item your charging will get muller'd.
Anything that needs to be charged whilst on the move shold be wired in to the battery or loom with the appropriate relays and fuses etc.
The socket I have is only waterproof for the sake of having it out in the open where it easily accesible without having to remove the seat (especially when your loaded up with camping gear etc) to get to it. It has taken the worst of the weather and never given any trouble, just flip the lid out and off you go,instant juice for the ipod and phone.I'e even used one of these if I'm in a rush to charge phone and Ipod.

just as I cant post piccys I hate playing with plastic body panel in case I break a lug.

see you around BT. thanks. now wheres that imaginary shroud i want.

    Re: Super Easy Power Socket......

I'd like to install a 12v waterproof power sockets on my transalp to occasionally charge my mp3 and mobile phone.

I'm a little unclear on the fuse situation though...

Am I correct in thinking that I need to put an inline fuse holder on the positive/negative cable if it doesn't have one inbuilt?

Please can someone tell me what Amp fuse I should use for the electrical items mentioned above.

    Thanks,
    Ollie

This guy sells keenly priced and in my experience well presented and put together leads etc. They include instructions etc as well
