Bike in a Caravan

OK lets see if this turns up anything. I have a WV Camper and tow a bike trailer with bike on the events etc BUT these days having another vehicle is getting expensive so I have thought about selling the camper and replacing it with a caravan and towig with my wifes Freelander - Now I dont need any advice on caravans or towing or Freelanders etc BUT does anyone know if there is a caravan with a lift back so that I can load up a bike into it, secure it and then tow away? Simple eh! Not it seems.

Re: Bike in a Caravan

can i suggest something like a ex hospitality trailer
it's a caravan used by traders that's taken to shows and the like as a mobile showroom and some of these have ramps built in so that they can be used to carry bikes or similar to display
the posher versions have kitchen facilities as well
hope this helps...

Seen it done with FS1E,s etc but they will go through the side door and are light enough to turn, but i have a big angle grinder, just mind your leg

Re: Bike in a Caravan

By putting a bike on the back you'll have problems balancing the caravan. The bike being probably the heaviest item to load it has to go in the middle. have a look for caravans with a rear access door there's not many about but they are there

Re: Bike in a Caravan

There's a guy on UKGsers who carries his R100GS in his caravan, so it is possible.

Re: Bike in a Caravan

A work collegue in Holland who races his ducati, bought a caravan built for this purpose from germany (they are manufactured in germany i think) it has a wide rear door, roof rack and ladder to carry gear on top, and is load rated to carry motorcycles. Oh, and looks very smart.
but i cant recmember the makers name sorry.
a search on ebay de may be worth a shot.
ps
it was quite expensive.

Re: Bike in a Caravan

I've bought a Ford Galaxy (VW Sharan) because my Honda NSR250 can stand in thr rear with the seats out. I'm looking at a XR400/600 and I think it can stand in the rear too, if I can strap down the forks, to decrease the height of the machine, maybe also have to turn down the handlebar.
Its a bit smarter than a traders van.

I have been thinking of something on the outside, maybe on the hitch? 120kg is not that much on the rear end.
