Peli Case Panniers (I'm a copy cat!)

    Hey all,

After seeing the peli case panniers thread last week I decided to copy dee (it was a cracking idea!).

I ordered the cases (i splashed out on their locks as well), in total these came to £100 (they were brand new). Once i ordered them i set about figuring out how to fit them, i looked at the touratech site and decided that £43 for the kit to fit just one was too much so decided on making it for myself!

So here is how i did it all for under £20!

I went round a couple of DIY shops, focus, B&Q etc When i stumbled on some aluminium u shaped strips in Homebase (of all places) so decided on that. I wanted to make a locking device that could be accessed from inside the box, after looking at the puck thingys i had an epiphany, and bought a couple of rubber door stops (guess what i did with these?), any how long story short i'll let the pics do the rest of the talking!

Let me know what you think?

need job, and good value. Are you sure one puck/lock thing is enough?

I suppose there are still 3 fixing point nicely traingulated, so probably.

Interesting! How did you fix the lower U channel? Nuts or bolts would press against the pannier rails, so I'm curious.

I can't see them fixings either but I assume it would be a row of decent pop rivets with 1" repair washers behind to spread the load and a good dollop of silicone to keep it all waterproof.

Peli Case 1500 as a Top Box fitted to a Metal Mule carrier for a BMW F650GS but the principals are just the same for any attachment.

The key is to fit the case to the frame with the frame OFF the bike and lets you see all the various options. Make cardboard templates for any drilings and try to work to 1mm. I have used all stainless fittings with home made alloy retaining brackets. Alloy plates are on the inside to spread any localised loading on the Peli Case. Don't forget to place the case(s) so that no obstructions occur preventing the removal of panels (LHS on a Transalp). All brackets need sharp edges removed so that when handling the cases off the bike nothing gets snagged.

Casemarket Ltd., www.casemarket.co.uk for the Peli Cases (Fast Delivery) and Protex Fasteners somewhere in South Brum (Redditch?). Alloy brackets made out of 2mm angle. I hope this gives some ideas for fitting Peli Cases. See the photos below.

Sorry for taking so long to reply (been really busy). Everything used came from home base. I countersunk bolts and drilled out a u shape wedge in the metal and slipped them over the bolts, using washers just to make sure it gripped properly.

Have used them daily and they work great!
