Another chain oiler bodge under £8

Crimbo project. Cost under £8. Pipe and valves from tropical fish shop, football inflation needle from kitchen draw, reservoir lying around in the garage. The bulk of the ideas stolen from other members. Gravity/syphon fed from reservoir under seat, two valves, Red to set flow & green to turn off after riding. Feed to chain under front sprocket cover. Needle mounted in plastic guide for the gear selector shaft. Seems to work fine. I will have to keep an eye on the needle touching the chain due to the articulation of the swing arm, but have around 10mm and I will load up the bike and check again.

Early days. Had a good ride out yesterday all fine. Chain nicely oiled without to much on the rear rim. I dont think there's much to go wrong providing you keep an eye on the reservoir level and monitor the flow rate etc. If you want more info just shout.

Update. No problems with the chain or the flow rate. The problem lies with the oil rising up the screw thread on the valves, despite the o rings. On closer inspection they are nylon, I will source some rubber ones and see if that improves things. Its not gushing out but it does trickle down the frame after a few hours riding.

Temporary solution: coat the o-rings in silicone grease

Hey everyone I really liked the look of this system. So with a bit of searching around I found the same valve on ebay. It will be on my bike by the weekend hopfuly!

Have now sourced and fitted rubber o rings and all working tickidy boo, and just fitted the same system to a BMW 650 Funduro. Off to Morocco on the 30th so that should be a make or break.

How does the valve work? It looks like a 1 in, 2 out splitter, so how does turning one off stop the supply to the other?

Refering to the pic on the ebay page the flow would have to be. In the left hand side, this is to stop and start the flow of oil. Out the middle port, this one you regulate the flow with. The right hand port will have to be blanked off. Im not sure if the one shackleton shows in his picture is exactly the same now I look closer, its hard to see as the bits are on the other side of the valves on his photo.

    Hope this helps, George
