yet another chain oiler - not gravity feed tho!

I saw a chain oiler that seemed to work on the basis that you pull a plunger and then it drips that ammount of oil onto the chain!

cool - but hard to make for a muppett like me so i came up with a solution - a syringe full of oil that you apply to the chain as and when you need it by pressing the plunger but so that you don't run out - it syphons oil from a reservoir and then down a tube to the chain - to make sure it doesn't go the wrong way up the wrong tube i used two non return valves!

all of this sounds complicated but it isnt as the photo below should demonstrate!

the oil is drawn from the coke bottle (i mean reservoir) into the tubing as you pull the plunger, when you press the plunger the oil cannot return to the reservoir and so goes down the other pipe to the applicator (football inflation needle), when you pull the plunger again the oil cannot be drawn back from the applicator due to another non return valve and so it is drawn from the reservoir, once the bottle is full of oil, pump the plunger to prime the system and away you go!!

soooo on to the install!!

the applicator goes here . . .

the tubing goes here . . . . . (take off the cockpit side panel for ease) . .

and the syringe is put somewhere easy to reach whilst riding! . . . .

i have tried it on the paddock stands and it is great the delivery is good but you only need half a syringe at most any more then that and it goes everywhere!!!!

simple straightforward and easy to install!

as for the reservoir . . .

need better zip ties but you get the idea - not elegant - but very effective!

total cost - £9 - and about 2 hours!

let me know what y'all think!

Haven't got a photo, but my friend uses one of those cheap hand soap pump dispensers from Boots or superdrug,

Use up the soap inside, fill with chainsaw oil and add tube and needle - such as mentioned here before, football inflator or WD40 tube and attach to bike,

seems effective if you remember to pump now & then

cost - zilch if you were going to throw the dispenser away anyway!!

Doesn't cost much to give it a try!

Like it!

Even better, should have enough bits lying around at work to make one (or 2) of those!

Excellent!

Re: yet another chain oiler - not gravity feed tho!

quick update - the system work and works well but i notice that it continues to drip during the night due to the syphon that seems to be started in the system - i have remedied this with a digit actuated spring valve

(it's a bulldog clip!)

remove when riding - replace when parking for the day/night!

that stops it!

Veodoble, I think the 'didget actuated spring valve' is a bulldog clip.

....to stop the oil flow by night.
