There was me thinking that you'd made a box for your pipe and tools.
I love the look of your Remus pipe, something for me to think about when I'm bored one day. Will it increase the db by loads?
That toolbox looks brilliant! I've been thinking about having that done since I can't seem to find a place for a second tool tube (a toolbox welded on like yours seems like it'd provide so much more usable space in exactly the place you need it).
If you don't mind me asking, did you do anything to waterproof it inside (welding a back plate inside of it?), and did you weld together the bashplate sides to the center piece before adding the box?
How do you keep the lid on, and is there a way to lock it?
Any hints/tips or photos of it being built? It looks like a really tidy job! Well done![]()
Not waterproofed yet, just prototyping stage!! The bash plate sides will still unbolt from the centre section. I have not fitted the rubber straps yet but these will be like the original marathon type which are basic rubber battery straps, 1 either end (not lockable with this yet). Unfortunately no pics of the construction just started with a home made sheet bender and some 3mm ali for the sides and base and 1mm for the lid. In future base and sides will be 1.5mm as 3mm was overkill and difficult to bend by hand!!![]()

Thanks for the infohelpful to know.
Are you thinking of making more of these (just when you mention in the future the sides being different)? If you're thinking of making them up to sell or doing them as an addon for people give me a shout!

Ah..I thought you'd been doing the welding yourself. I'd still be interested and I'd imagine other people would too, but I might be wanting to find myself a better bashplate first if the price was going to be fairly high overall (and I know you'll need to cover your time and materials which is completely reasonable and only to be expected ontop of the welding cost). My current bashplate is a bit dinged up (not too bad but probably not worth much itself so not the best candidate perhaps if it'd be pricey).
Would it be possible to do them in kit form that people can weld up themselves or have done locally (that might save sending the bashplate down to you - which would be another problem for me at the moment as I'm hoping to leave for a trip very soon so will need it). There's a guy at the bottom of my street who can weld well apparently (into cars in a big way) but not sure if he'd be able to do aluminium (know he's a bit reluctant to touch stainless steel when I asked about my link pipe -so I'll need to be looking for a welder to do that over this next week so could get an idea of costs when I find someone).
Looking at the design, if there was a back face that ran parallel in the same arc as the bashplate, do you think it would it be possible to run a line of bolts top and bottom through the bashplate into the backplate of the box to bolt it on as a kit (or is that a dumb idea? I'm a bit of a numpty where the strength of metals are concerned - but my tooltube is hanging on just by a couple of nuts through the bashplate with big washers on the back and seems to be fine so far - maybe if there was a loose strip of aluminium on each side as a strenthener to run the bolts through?). I know it wouldn't have the proper marathon look but might be a bit easier to fit as a kit perhaps and it'd be removable too (maybe easier to waterproof?). If you were wanting to sell them as a kit that might be easier for people too as they wouldn't need to be without their bashplate while it was done and avoid any additional welding to attach it (maybe easier to take orders for several at once and have them welded at a discount for a group buy?).
Keep us updated with your plans anyway. I'm certainly interested in something like this because I can't seem to fit on a second tool tube, and carrying extra tools in my tank bag and pannier at the moment (not that I have much of a clue how to use them yet, but I figure best prepared and if I get stuck somewhere better to have them than not and I'll figure out what I need when I need them at a push).
