    Stuck at 10mph

    The Major (otherwise known as my Suzuki GN250) refuses to register a speed abover 10mph. I admit I am not often going much faster, unless I am going downhill with the wind behind me, but even I can tell all is not well. The spider and accompanying web which are stuck inside the glass provided another clue.

    The man in the garage clearly misunderstood my fundamental attachment and asked how long I was planning to hold onto the bike!! Having bypassed such stupid questions we established that it mught cost quite a lot to replace the unit. The cable appears to be fine - the miles are still clocking up.

    So to ebay. Is item no 360224613569 (speedometer drive) what I am looking for or is it a replacement unit I need?

    Please assume I have used up all technical knowledge in posing the question.

    That's not what you need. It sounds like the actual speedometer needs to be dismantled and cleaned out to remove the speed limiting spider colony. If the speedo drive or cable was broken, the needle wouldn't move at all and the miles wouldn't increase.

    Why not just leave it as it is, in therory it should accumulate miles slower then, and then when you do decide to sell it you can sell it with lower than average mileage

    May i suggest an Acewell as i'm now on my 3rd trailtech (waranties) and as they are advirtsed for offraod bike they are **** and don't seem to like water very much, which is one thing offroad bikes get exposed tooo.

    As for the mot it doesn't have to work for that so thats not an option

    Re: Stuck at 10mph

    Either find a used one on ebay, get someone to have a look at it, get a digital one - either a pushbike speedo (work well but no back light) or as mentioned, an Acewell/Trailtech unit.

    Places like M&P etc also do aftermarket analogue speedo's quite cheaply.

    Thanks all

    I'll get my under-developed girlie shopping head on and follow up on these eminently sensible suggestions, which of course had not crossed my mind.

    Verified 40mph++...wheeeeee!

    Re: Stuck at 10mph

    Does the bike have a rev counter

    If it does you could mark what revs relate to speed ranges in top gear for example by travelling with some one to help you

    3000 = 40mph
    4000 = 60mph etc

    And put a small sticker or an idiot ink dot on the face of the revcounter

    A cheap no cost option if available to you

    02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica
